Amonsot vs. Da in WBO rematch on June 7 in Cebu

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific lightweight champion Czar Amonsot will face the same opponent he defeated for the erstwhile vacant title when he headlined the boxing promotion co-produced by Cebu’s SGG Sports Promotion and ALA Gym and Korea’s Boxing Plaza Entertainment on July 7 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

Amonsot will make his first defense against Da Woon Jung of South Korea in a 12-round rematch that will be beamed live in South Korea.

Da, the current Korean lightweight champion, lost to Amonsot by split decision last February 9 in his home country and is looking to do the same to the Tagbilaran City-native puncher when they meet for the second time for the same belt.

After their heated exchange last February, two judges favored Amonsot with 119-109 and 115-113 while the third judge gave 115-113 to Da.

History

Amonsot who was once dropped out from the fabled ALA Gym allegedly for lack of self-discipline that caused him humiliation in front of his supporters in Tagbilaran City is now on the right track to regain his lost glory and to catch up with lost opportunities.

Scheduled to fight in another championship fight is Korean Sung Yong Kim against a yet to be named opponent and also newest boxing sensation AJ “Bazooka” Banal for a 10-rounder event.

Meanwhile, abroad, two Australia-based Filipino fighters suffered defeats at the Rugby League Club in Wyong, New South Wales yesterday.

Losign streak

Lightweight Junmar Dulog and junior welterweight Rolando Gerongco lost by unanimous decision after six rounds.

Dulog of Surigao City lost to Allan Luxford, 54-59, 54-60 and 55-58, while Gerongco of Bato, Leyte suffered a one-sided beating 60-53-all three judges to William Kickett.

Dulog dropped to 4-6-1, 2KOs while Gerongco who had snapped a 13 fight losing streak with a knockout win over Matthew Paulley last September lost his fifth straight and dropped 13-25, 7KOs.
