SEOUL, KOREA–ALA Boy Robert Allanic captured the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific bantamweight interim title with an impressive seventh-round technical knockout victory yesterday over Korean Chang Jae Kwon at the Shin Heung University at Uijeongbu City here.
Korean referee Wan Soo Yuh stopped the contest at the 40-second mark of the seventh round as the Filipino fighter Allanic pounced on Chang endlessly with big combinations and uppercuts to the face.
Allanic, who showed who is boss early, bucked a fourth-round cut caused by an accidental headbutt, which opened an old wound above his left eyebrow, and dominated all throughout the fight using crisp jabs and uppercuts for which Chang had no answer.
By the sixth, Allanic had the Korean’s face a grotesque mask of crimson, and pummeled Chang with several unanswered combinations at the final seconds of the round.
The Filipino fighter, sensing that a win was within reach, continued his assault when the bell rang for the seventh round and defeated Chang impressively.
The win improved Allanic’s record to 16 wins, 3 losses with 8 KO’s while Chang went down to 14-3, 10 KO’s.
With the win, Allanic also redeemed himself from an ealier loss to Abner Mares in Philadelphia, USA as he now looks forward to yet another opportunity in America.
In the chief support, Filipino Fernando Otic was not as lucky as he lost a majority decision to Korean Hee Jae Jo in a very competitive fight.
Scores were 95-95, 93-97 and 94-96 with the Korean winning on the two Korean judges’ scorecards.
