Featherweight king Marco Antonio Barrera, in San Antonio to prepare for his Nov. 15 superbout at the Alamodome against Manny Pacquiao, has been asked to undergo a battery of neurological tests before the Texas boxing commission will issue him a license.
In 1997, Barrera underwent brain surgery to repair a small group of malformed blood vessels in his brain, a minor abnormality Barrera had since birth.
During the surgery, a series of tiny, protective implants were inserted. The surgery went off without a hitch and Barrera resumed his boxing career.
