World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who reportedly earned at least $119 million (P5.2 billion) in his recent bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr., remains the wealthiest member of the House of Representatives for the fifth straight year.
According to a list of statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) released by the House secretariat on Thursday, Pacquiao?who represents the province of Sarangani?remains the only billionaire among congressmen as he declared a net worth of P1.688 billion.
His net worth for 2014 increased by more than P340 million. He declared a net worth of P1.345 billion the previous year.
Pacquiao declared P1.12 billion in real property, P734 million in personal property and liabilities worth P155 million.
The eight-division boxing champion has been the richest legislator since winning a congressional seat in 2010.
According to the Mirror Online, the purse for the much hyped ?Fight of the Century? was set at $300million, which was split 60/40 in Mayweather?s favor. Pacquiao lost the controversial bout by unanimous decision.
The Mirror said Mayweather earned $4.9 million per minute of action in the 12 round bout, with Pacquiao earning $3.3 million per minute. In total, Mayweather collected $179 million while Pacquiao got $119 million. The amounts exclude revenue sharing in pay-per-view subscriptions among others.
A far second to Pacquiao is Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. of Quezon City who declared a net worth of P921 million. His declared net worth in 2013 was P819 million. Belmonte, who was president of the Government Service Insurance System, Manila Hotel and Philippine Airlines when the hotel and PAL two were still owned by the government before jumping to politics, declared owning real property worth P14 milion and P734 million in personal property. He has P2.3 million in liabilities.
Rounding up the top five are former First Lady Imelda Marcos (Ilocos Norte), P917 million; Albee Benitez (Negros Occidental), P845 million and Julio Ledesma 4th (Negros Occidental), P822 million.
Sharing sixth-place are newly-weds Mark Villar (Las Pi?as City, Metro Manila) and Emmeline Aglipay-Villar (Democratic Independent Workers Association party-list) with a joint net worth of P689 million.
