I have an easy solution to the problem of that whole Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao snoozefest.
Look no further than this Saturday, May 9 when Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez takes on James Kirkland on HBO (do yourself a favor and skip the Mayweather-Pacquiao rebroadcast).
This fight should serve as the perfect palate cleanser to that dreck of a ?super? fight from last weekend. Where Mayweather and Pacquiao failed, Alvarez and Kirkland will succeed.
This Canelo Alvarez-James Kirkland fight is, on paper, a possible fight of the year. Neither man gives, both throw freely and get his quite a bit.
For Kirkland this could be his last real chance at a major world title and the big stage if he were to lose. If he were to win? A whole new world could open up for him. He has the talent and he can slug with the best of them, but he doesn?t always exhibit what would be called a sound state of mind.
His bout with Alfredo Angulo showed the fight he has inside of him. In that bout he was knocked down twice in the first round and looked like he was going to be toast, but he survived the round and went on to progressively beat the crap out of Angulo.
For Alvarez a loss would be a mild set back. He wants to stay up on his pedestal and a win against a big, tough-as-nails fighter like Kirkland would keep him there and prove to many that he can be in there with a legit grinder and come out on top. A loss wouldn?t necessarily precipitate a big fall, but he would need a fight or two to get back up.
All-in-all this fight is going to be explosive. It?s a fight that hardcore boxing fans should have their casual fan friends tune in to. It?s going to be a barn burner.

Kirland will make for a very tough out for Alvarez. I see him testing Canelo early and often before succumbing to Canelo?s consistent pressure.
