8CountNews sat down with Top Rank Head Bob Arum and got his thoughts on the big fight, the PPV numbers, Pacquiao’s shoulder operation, a rematch, and much much more. Check out what he had to say below.
BC – Bob, 5 million buys?
BA ? I have absolutely no idea at this time. We haven’t got numbers from any cable system. All we have are satellite numbers, all of which are spectacular numbers. Until we get the cable numbers, we really don’t know. Over 5 Under 5, we don’t know yet.
BC- Yea, well if you come any where near that number, you’re a happy man.
BA ? Absolutely.
BC – How’s Manny’s shoulder?
BA ? He had the operation yesterday. The doctor was very pleased. He’ll evaluate it again in the next couple of weeks.
BC ? Any idea how long he will be out for?
BA ? Not really, you know with these types of operations, the recovery time and the rehab time varies from athlete to athlete. We’ll see. We’ll take it one step at a time.
BC ? How much did the injury impact Manny’s performance in the ring?
BA ? I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t want to get into that.
BC ? What about the pre fight questionnaire? Can you talk about that?
BA ? No.
BC ? What about a rematch?
BA ? My first concern is to get Manny’s shoulder well. After that if a rematch is proposed, it would get favorable consideration from our camp.
BC ? Are you happy with the over all event?
BA ? Some things we are happy with and some things we are not. That comes with the territory. You know? We got through it, and that’s as good as it can be.
BC ? The massive influx of PPV orders gave the cable stations a lot of trouble. We are your thoughts on that?
BA ? Well that’s why the start of the fight was delayed for 45 minutes. We had to give them time to process all of the orders.
BC ? What else do you got coming up for Top Rank?
BA ? Glen Tapia at the Prudential Center, Friday. Saturday on UniMas we have Jose Ramirez. There should be 10, 000 people there. The following Friday we have Jose Benavidez on TRU defending his title. We also have Tim Bradley on the 27th of June. He’ll fight Jesse Vargas. That’s a very good fight.
