LAS VEGAS ? All his life in the ring, Floyd Mayweather likened boxing to a game of chess.
Mayweather had always been careful about making any move, wary that the slightest mistake will end up becoming a blunder.
?It?s just like chess. We make calculated moves in the ring and outside the ring,? said the 38-year-old, Mayweather on Wednesday, three days before he risks his undefeated 47-0 record.
?From the beginning of my career, I?ve always had a game plan?I got with the right team and surrounded myself with the right chess pieces.?
It is this trait that Mayweather is banking on keeping his record intact although he realizes that he will be up against somebody he labels ?a solid fighter; a solid competitor.?
Mayweather admits Pacquiao poses a serious challenge ?but I believe in my skills?I believe I am going to be victorious? in the scheduled 12-rounder that he describes as an ?intriguing matchup.?
Pacquiao, noted Mayweather, will be at his best when the bell rings and that his main objective is ?to give you guys excitement.?
But in the end, Mayweather said his skills will carry him through and Pacquiao will end up becoming like the 47 who dared to make him eat his words. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather?s right-hand man, is upbeat about the outcome.
?Once again Floyd is out to prove that he is The Best Ever and I know he will on Saturday night,? he said of his boss. (Nick Giongco)
