The pound-for-pound king takes on Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Mayweather, 38, claims his last outing will be in September even though he could be on the brink of more history.
The American would be 49-0 if he wins his last two fights which would equal him with Rocky Marciano?s long-time record.
But he insists his father and coach ? Floyd Sr ? is right to say he should quit because every fight is a gamble with his health.
Floyd Sr wants his son to quit after the Pacquiao fight, but he will still have one bout left with US broadcaster Showtime.
Mayweather said: ?I?m a man of my word.
?My father is right, September, I think will be my last fight? Floyd Mayweather Jr
?We’ll just have to see how everything plays out on Saturday. My father is entitled to his own opinion.
?My father is right, September, I think will be my last fight.
?My father was right. You now it is about the time for me to walk away.?
Mayweather will earn more than ?100m for his 48th fight when he puts his WBC and WBA welterweight titles on the line against WBO champion Pacquiao.
The American has been boxing?s highest earner and reigned supreme at the top of sport?s biggest money makers for years.
He believes his fortune that he has earned means he can comfortably walk away with more than ?500m in the bank from ring earnings to look after his family for generations.
And that is not including the investments he makes in businesses and property that even this week were rolling in.
BUSINESS: Floyd Mayweather Jr is pleased with the money he’s making from the fight [GETTY]
He said: ?I’ve got to say about my team in the last 48 hours they have done their job, they have made $11m and that’s going over to my children.
?My team has taken care of business, outside of boxing, just smart investments. In the last 48 hours, just to be able to put that aside for my children is just remarkable.
?It is a great thing. My team has done a remarkable job to my kids in a very comfortable position.
?It’s not just my team, I did it too ? I had a vision.?
Mayweather has been criticised for his arrogance and verbal tirades before big fights, most notably when he fought ring legend Oscar De La Hoya and Britain?s Ricky Hatton.
