Jose Nu?ez, the manager of WBO super featherweight champion Joan Guzman, informed Boxing Confidential late Wednesday evening that he would be pulling the Dominican Dandy out of a scheduled fight against WBO lightweight champion Michael Katsidis.
Nu?ez informed www.boxingconfidential.com that Guzman suffered a hand injury during sparring in preparation for the May 26 fight with Katsidis, which was to be HBO Boxing After Dark’s main event from The Arena in Anaheim, California. Guzman was in the midst of his first camp with new trainer Floyd Mayweather Senior.
It will be interesting to see how the situation plays out. HBO now has a Boxing After Dark date on May 26 with no main event and Nu?ez believes that the network will scrap the broadcast without the presence of Guzman.
Golden Boy Promotions and Sycuan Ringside Promotions, which promote Guzman, now need to decide if the show will continue in Anaheim, California. If push comes to shove, maybe Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck can cross the street from Disneyland to The Arena and fight in a four round exhibition.
No word on if the fight will be re-scheduled, more to come later today.
