The narrative of Saturday?s Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight is so simple it could have been written by Sylvester Stallone. Mayweather, the undefeated trash-talker who routinely boasts about his sports cars and absurdly large wagers, is the villain. Pacquiao, the soft-spoken underdog who has released music albums and been elected to Congress, is the hero. The world agrees on this.
Or does it?
A recent Facebook study shows that Mayweather is hands down the more popular boxer on the social-networking site, based on the number of ?likes? each fighter has accrued on his official Facebook page in each country around the world. Mayweather flattens Pacquaio across most of the globe, winning all of North America, South America, Africa and Europe.
Without surprise, Pacquaio does better in Asia, as roughly one-third of his Facebook fans are located in his native Philippines. Pacquiao also wins the nearby countries of Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, plus Japan and South Korea. Pacquiao also fares well on the Arabian Peninsula where he captured the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar in addition to Saudi Arabia.
