Tonight?s middleweight fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn between WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (33-2-1, 17 KOs) and challenger Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) has already been decided.
Due to Peter Quillin?s inability to make weight Friday, Lee has retained his title without having to throw, or absorb, a single punch.
It was supposed to be Lee?s first defense of the belt he won by defeating Matt Korobov in December, and by facing Quillin, in Brooklyn no less, was regarded as an iffy proposition, if not a mountain too high for the gutsy fighter from Limerick, Ireland.
But Quillin failed to make the 160-lb. limit, He weighed in at 161.4 lbs. and while he was given an extra two hours to make the weight, he could not get below 160.6 lbs.
Congratulations to the champ, who most people feared was about to lose his crown.
