Colleagues of Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao have a slim chance of personally watching him battle Floyd Mayweather on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas because of the ?extremely limited? and ?very expensive? tickets, a senior member of the House independent bloc said yesterday.
Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza, a very close friend of Pacquiao, said Mayweather?s shrewdness apparently worked as it hampered the boxing icon from giving complementary tickets to lawmakers and his friends.
?The tickets are extremely limited and very expensive. Until today, I have not heard that Pacquiao is distributing or will give complimentary tickets,? Atienza said.
Atienza earlier accused Mayweather?s camp of buying fight tickets on wholesale basis to deprive lawmakers and Filipinos in the United States of personally cheering Pacquiao.
Tickets reportedly cost $22,441 or almost P1 million each.
House Speaker Feliciano R. Belmonte Jr. had said that no members of the House sought his permission to travel to the US to watch Pacquiao fight.
Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, who heads the House independent bloc, had asked the public to pray for Pacquiao?s victory.
?Let?s just pray to our Dear Lord that Pacquiao will win the bout and give our full support to what could be his biggest and toughest fight in his very illustrious boxing career,? he said.
The House leadership had excused Pacquiao from attending plenary sessions to prepare for the fight.
