Word out of the Wild Card Gym today in Los Angeles, is that Manny Pacquiao is in a very foul mood and can’t wait to get Floyd Mayweather in his clutches.
According to trainer Freddie Roach, the 8-division champ and WBO welterweight boss is becoming downright diabolical as training camp heats up. Maybe it had something to do with Floyd getting his “Rocky” on, as “Money” recently released a spectacular wood chopping display (yawn..).
On the heels of having been subjected to a random blood test on Sunday at Floyd’s request (Pacquiao can also return the favor, per contract); the Filipino icon seems to have a renewed fervor about his craft, one not seen since his action fight with stablemate Miguel Cotto in 2009.
But that was business. This seems very personal.
“I’ve never seen him dislike an opponent in my life,” said Roach, “but you know what, he doesn’t like this guy. He won’t say anything bad about him, but he won’t say anything good about him either.”
Roach wasn’t done.
?Manny?s anger could be because everything has to be his (Mayweather’s) way. He has a comfort zone, like we couldn’t say anything about the fight until he announced it. He is very very insecure.”
Roach, never known to speak his mind folks, still wasn’t done.
“We will make him to be as competitive as we would want him to be to achieve our target of winning by knockout,” Roach said. “I can see it in his eyes, in his body movement, his attitude in training that he really wants to win and win decisively. Sometimes, I cannot help but think he’s mad at this guy [Mayweather].”
Anyone who saw the two of them leading up to the press conference last Wednesday, could tell the usually affable Pacquiao has taken on a more sinister tone for this fight. He tone and body language, seemed to contrast with that of Mayweather’s during and after the press event. is Floyd seemed subdued and almost with an air of “doomed”, when compared to Pacquiao’s calm menace.
A few days before the rather spectacular and historic L.A. press event, Pacquiao was seen rounding into form. While Floyd, a virtual ring savant who never really takes any time off from training, was seen sharpening his repertoire (and according to this account, is angry too on the low) for what I believe promises to be a war.
At $100 for the PPV, we’ll all be angry if they’re not.
