In a recent press Interview with Floyd Mayweather Jr., set up by Kelly Swanson and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather Jr. took time to answer many questions. Many of the questions from the press were in regards to his upcoming fight with Oscar De La Hoya, set for May 5th on HBO Pay-Per-View. One of the questions Mayweather took the time to answer was in regards to the amount of money the fight should generate.
Dan Rafael of ESPN.com asked Mayweather Jr. during the press interview to reflect on the kind of revenue expected by this fight. Rafael asked Mayweather Jr to give his own personal thoughts about this fight generating the kind of money that it’s going to generate and for Mayweather’s enthusiasm for being involved in such a high profile event.
Mayweather Jr’s answer: Well it deserves to generate that kind of money. You know, I told you ? I told you guys this years and years ago. Like I said before, it’s obvious that you know, when I was talking about this fight four or five years ago, everybody wasn’t listening.
Everybody laughed at me and said, oh this a joke. This kid is a joke, but now that the fight is here and it’s the biggest fight in boxing, now they’re saying, oh this kid ? ah, Floyd, he know what he talking about. But, you know four or five years I didn’t ? four or five years ago, you know, Floyd Mayweather didn’t know what he was talking about. You know? Things happen for a reason and I feel that it’s going to be a hell of a fight May 5th and I in ? I’m in tremendous shape. Great shape.
