The Superfight Edition: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather [Vol.II] “Poochie”

In the streets, shots fired are usually the result of confidence expired.

Afterall, it is easier to simply pick up a gun, when you don’t think your hands good enough. Perhaps this explains why Floyd Mayweather chose to fire verbal warning shots at “Poochie”, aka Manny Pacquiao, on September 2, 2010, as his Filipino nemesis was about to prepare for war against Antonio Margarito.

Floyd had gone on another lengthy hiatus to preserve himself after his May 2010 bout with Shane Mosley, and wouldn’t return until he faced Victor Ortiz in September 2011. As soon as he did return, amid scornful reaction to his diabolical video, he was telling the world “Pacquiao- you’re next”.

It wasn’t with conditions, if’s, and’s, or but’s.

This was a year after his “Poochie” rant, and if you watch that video, he offered the same tone and body language he’d offered fans all over the world regarding Margarito (see below).

In his infamous and nefarious YouTube bludgeoning of “Poochie”, Dan Rafeal of ESPN reminded viewers on the network when they replayed parts of it, that the full unedited version is so profane and full of intense hate that it was hard to listen to.

Under closer inspection, the origins of ire which lead to his racist and homophobic rant against Pacquiao, stemmed from the fact that Pacquiao was set to face a fighter he never wanted to meet.

He successfully avoided Margarito.

Mayweather said the things he said about “Poochie” despite being hit with a lawsuit in December 2009 for defamation. Which can only mean he was so angry and so bothered by this man, that he decided to disregard all reason.

Or was it that he couldn’t disregard his jealousy?

“Hey! Poo-chay! Baby I got cha “Money” don’t chu worry! Said Hey! Baby I got cha “Money”!

Floyd, prolly bumpin his own karaoke of Old Dirty Bastard’s “Baby I got your money” after signing to face Manny Pacquiao

AIGHT WHERE WERE WE…

Anyway, around the same time he was clearly avoiding Margarito in early 2006, Floyd Mayweather decided to attend a January 2006 rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales. He’s easy to spot at ringside, as he’s seen seated next to Leonard Ellerbe cheering wildly for Pacquiao as he stopped Morales in the 10th round (who had never been previously knocked down or stopped).

Before he was “Poochie”, he was to Floyd an electrifying super featherweight who was 17lbs south of him. He was an exciting fighter that no one yet regarded as the best in the world, and a fighter who hadn’t yet started beating the sh*t out of men he’d either already beaten (Oscar De la hoya, Ricky Hatton) or wouldn’t face at all (Miguel Cotto- at the time, and the aforementioned Margarito).

All the cheers and adulation that the world (himself included) had bestowed on Pacquiao and warmed his soul, got a little different as “Poochie” began to tread into his waters. That very same adulation became something like ether in the soul of Mayweather.

Instead of admiring his ascension – as he indeed did – and salivating at the chance to vanquish who he now regarded as “Poochie”, Floyd, aka “TBE”, bitched out and attempted to win a fight against this man outside of the ring, while using all of his money and influence to avoid him altogether as he had Margarito.

But you wouldn’t let him.

3.11.15: THE “REAL” FACE-OFF IS SET FOR LOS ANGELES

We don’t need Max Kellerman and a “Face-Off” promo. Just witnessing the two of them in front of CNN, HBO, Showtime; in front of writers from universally respected members of the worldwide Associated Press, USA Today, New York Times, Chicago Tribune (etc.), is enough for me.

The 6-year odyssey is over, as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will exchange looks of real meaning – unlike those exchanged at a meaningless Miami Heat – on an official platform for the entire world to witness. Instead of exchanging ideas in private hotel talks, they can openly talk about exchanges we can expect to see on May 2nd.

But in all honesty, we don’t really give a sh*t what they have to say tomorrow, because all the talk is now beyond cheap, and to silence it will be expensive. Fine. All we care about is the realization of a dream, once we see these two confirm a confrontation unlike any ever demanded in sports history.

And so it is movie stars, pro athletes, entrepreneurs, tycoons of every sort, celebrity reporters and media from all around the world, will descend upon Hollywood for the biggest press conference in the history of boxing today.

They will flash their camera’s, raise cell phones and crane their necks for a glimpse of a man from circumstances so poor his father ate his dog; while doing the same for another – whose father tried to use him as a human shield when he was a baby – before ultimately being shot in the leg.

This is the same man, Floyd Sr., who had the audacity to tell the world before sending his fighter Ricky Hatton out to face Pacquiao, that Manny was “one of the biggest faggots in the planet”. Gee I really didn’t know we had “faggots” inside the earth, but I do know that Pacquiao put Hatton inside the canvas the last time he fought on a May 2nd.

I don’t know what Floyd will say to Manny today, but I do hope he calls him “Poochie”.
