Floyd Mayweather made a pronouncement Sunday at the NBA All-Star Game. But it did not match Saturday?s rumors about what Mayweather was going to say Sunday concerning his prospective fight with Manny Pacquiao.
Rumors, advanced most prominently by British writer Gareth Davies, had Mayweather officially unveiling a $250 million May 2 extravaganza, presumably during halftime of the NBA game.
Instead he scotched the rumors. ?No, that?s not true,? Mayweather told interviewer David Aldridge of Turner Sports during the third quarter of the basketball broadcast. ?I haven?t signed. He hasn?t signed.?
The rumors had made some sense, partly because Davies is prominent and partly because his citation of sources in the Pacquiao camp seemed plausible, but mostly because both Turner?s two networks and Mayweather?s primary network these days, Showtime, are both tied to CBS.
Mayweather, who had rebuffed an attempt by a New York Daily News reporter to get the fight low-down Saturday as Mayweather attended the all-star event?s 3-point-shooting contest, indicated to Aldridge that negotiations are still ongoing and that he?s still hopeful there will a fight in May.
But there is no contract, and thus there was still nothing to announce Sunday evening.
