SAN FRANCISCO -- Top-ranked Golden State Warriors had some difficulty disposing the Minnesota Timberwolves, who only has 11 victories this season. But thanks to a big 3 by Klay Thompson, the Warriors notched win No. 42.
Thompson's 3 with 1:22 left to play broke an 89-89 tie and the Warriors eventually prevailed, 94-91, on Wednesday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Steph Curry led all scorers with 25 and eight assists while Thompson had 14. Andre Bogut had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Andre Iguodala went 4-of-4 from the field for eight points.
Kevin Martin posted 21 points for Minnesota while Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic combined for 35. But the Wolves struggled and made just 33 of 86 shots. Minnesota won the rebounds battle, 50-49 but they had only 18 assists against Golden State's 26.
At 42-9, the Warriors own the best record in the NBA, leading the 39-14 Memphis Grizzlies by four games in the Western Conference. The 43-11 Atlanta Hawks are running away in the Eastern Conference, up by 6.5 games over second-placer Toronto Raptors (36-17) (JSM).
