Nonito Donaire to fast track world title bid

MANILA ? Former five-division world champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. is scheduled to return to action this March, but his upcoming fight won?t just be a typical bout taken by former champions who are coming off a devastating loss.

According to Donaire?s father and trainer Nonito, Sr., the Filipino Flash will be aiming to position himself to vie for another world crown after his 2015 debut.

Donaire, Sr. said they are now looking for an opponent that will give his son not only a good fight but also a chance to substantiate his aim of getting an immediate shot at a world crown.

Donaire?s upcoming fight will be for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) superbantamweight crown against a still-to-be-determined opponent on March 28 at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.

??Yung NABF kasi is under the World Boxing Council so kung manalo ng maganda si Junjun, malaki din yung chance na makapasok siya sa ratings ng WBC,? said Donaire, Sr.

Among the prominent names who are currently rated by the NABF in the 122lb class include the undefeated Jesse Magdaleno of the United States and former world champions Tomas Rojas and Hugo Cazares who are both well-known ring gladiators from Mexico.

Also being considered is Diego Oscar Silva, a journeyman from Argentina who is a two-time world title challenger with a record of 29-4-4, with 15 knockouts.

?Ang gusto ko kasi yung suntok ng suntok at yung andiyan lang sa harap ni Junjun. Yun din ang gusto ng tao kaya dapat ibigay din natin,? said Donaire, Sr.

The 32-year-old Donaire (33-3, 21 KO?s) is currently training in San Diego, California and is aching to recover from his painful 6th round TKO loss to Jamaican world featherweight champion Nicholas Walters October of last year in Carson, California. ? Rivals 2015
