SAN ANTONIO, Texas–The accredited journalists covering Saturday’s big event are all the same in their assessment of Manny Pacquiao’s date with Mexican Jorge Solis.
“Pacquiao will win in a round he wishes to finish the fight,” said ESTO’s top Mexican boxing writer Jose Luis Camarillo. “Solis will be lucky to get past six rounds.”
American scribe Wally Matthews of Newsday said something out of the extraordinary should happen for Pacquiao to lose against Solis.
“Strange things have happened (in boxing),” said Matthews, also a fight commentator for Versus Channel, but under normal circumstances, “Pacquiao wins easily.”
Three other renowned Mexican writers, Sergio Abarca of Notimex, Salvador Rodriguez of Record and Leopoldo Gonzalez of box-latino, predict a trouble-free win.
Abarca picks an eighth-round knockout for Pacquiao, while Rodriguez sees a victory in six, and Gonzalez predicts it to happen in seven rounds, all for Pacquiao.
So favored Pacquiao is that it is on what round Solis will fall that bettors are placing their wagers. —Nick GIONGCO
