SAN ANTONIO–Nacho Huizar doesn’t talk in circles. He is not a guy who tosses down a few or 10 top shelf margaritas and then smashes your holiday pinata or dances around with a tie on his head…meaning he’s not the life of any party…but he does talk straight.
Huizar, here with WBC super flyweight champ Cristian Mijares for what will be a hotly-contested battle with still rising star Jorge “Travieso” Arce, is also lobbying heavily for his man, Humberto Soto, to get his long-delayed chance at the WBC 130-pound title which JM Marquez just wrested away from some fellow named Marco Antonio Barrera. Huizar is so frustrated in waiting for the title shot that he does not care if the formidable Soto has to fight Manny Pacquaio in an eliminator or goes after Marquez straightaway.
“Juan Manuel is a tougher fight to me for Soto,” Huizar said. “He is technically sound and he is a smarter fighter. But I know that my Humberto will win the 130-pound title and then go on to the 135-pound title.
“As far as Pacman, that is an easier fight for us. I guarantee that Soto will knock Pacman out. Ninety-nine percent of the guys he fights, Pacman is physically stronger than them. He is not stronger than Humberto and he knows it.”
Huizar sees one real “danger man” for Soto and it is the undefeated Dominican Dandy, Joan Guzman.
“Guzman, that is the dangerous guy,” Huizar said. “He is the only opponent that I fear for Soto. But, you know what, Humberto is age 26 and time is moving…so I would take that chance. I would fight Guzman.”
Humberto Soto is humble, but according to those who have followed his career, he has no reason to be. The cognoscenti who know the Mexixcan boxing scene all say the same thing and they are not on the payroll like the Nacho Man from Tijuana is.
They say Humberto Soto is a beast.
