SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Filipino-American Brian Viloria says it’s rightfully his, but Edgar Sosa of Mexico believes otherwise.
Viloria and Sosa are talking of one thing and that’s the World Boxing Council (WBC) light-flyweight crown that they will dispute Saturday night underneath the Manny Pacquiao headliner at the Alamodome.
“I am prepared to take what’s rightfully mine,” said Viloria on Wednesday, referring to the WBC 108-lb title that he briefly held and which was taken by Mexican Omar Nino from him.
Sosa told the people in attendance that his aim “is to take the title back to Mexico” despite the fact that he readily acknowledges that Viloria is “fast and strong.”
The Mexico-based WBC declared the title vacant when it was discovered that Romero had taken banned substances during his controversial 12-round draw with Viloria late last year.
“I am very motivated,” said Sosa, who carries a 26-5-0 win-loss-draw slate with 14 knockouts.
Viloria was born in Hawaii but who spent his first six years with grandparents in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, before reuniting with his parents in Honolulu.
