Roger Mayweather has made a request to the Nevada Athletic Commission to reinstate his trainer’s license, so he can work the corner for nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. when he meets Oscar De La Hoya on May 5.
Mayweather was fined and suspended for 1-year following his participation in the April 2006 brawl during the tenth-round of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Zab Judah bout, held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Boxing scribe Kevin Iole obtained a copy of an unsigned letter that was faxed to the commission with the request for reinstatement.
Roger Mayweather wrote the following;
“I made a grave mistake that caused me, my nephew, the state of Nevada and all of boxing a great deal of embarrassment. Over the past year I had a great deal of time to reflect on the incident, and given the situation again, I would not enter the ring again.”
According to Iole, the commission will consider his request on Tuesday.
