The city government of Manila, in cooperation with Solar Sports, will feature the super featherweight fight between Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and unbeaten Mexican puncher Jorge Solis in eight different venues throughout the capital city for free viewing on Sunday.
“This humble tribute the City of Manila is presenting our boxing hero (Pacquiao) will serve as a continuing inspiration to all Manile?os, especially the youth, to be the best they can possibly be as shown by Manny over and over again that Filipinos have what it takes to be champions,” said Manila Mayor Lito Atienza.
“Pacquiao’s feats inspire all of us and Manilans are doubly proud of their favorite adopted son who continues to unite all Filipinos with his exploits and triumphs,” added former Manila Sports Council (MASCO) chief Arnold “Ali” Atienza, who is seeking to follow the footsteps of his father.
Officials from all of the city’s 895 barangays, as well as the public will witness through giant screens the historic fight dubbed as “Blaze of Glory” telecast live via satellite from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas courtesy of Solar All Access.
To serve as free-viewing venues for all of the city’s Barangay officials are the Tondo Sports Complex in District 1, Sentro ng Malikhaing Manile?o (formerly Patricia Sports Complex) in District 2, Delpan Sports Complex in District 3, Arturo Tolentino Sports Complex (formerly Dapitan) in District 4, and San Andres Sports and Civic Center and Ninoy Aquino Stadium for District 5 and 6.
Giant LCD screens will also be installed at the Balut Covered Court in Tondo and RASAC Covered Court in Sta. Cruz to accommodate Barangay officials, as well as residents in both areas.
The free-viewing project is supported by the MASCO, City Administrator’s Office, City Engineer’s Office, Manila Tourism and Cultural Affairs Bureau, Department of Public Services, Manila Barangay Bureau, Public Recreations Bureau, Manila Police District, and Manila Health Department. (PNA)
