TEAM YAQUI LOPEZ ?FAT CITY? GETS THREE WINS IN AMATEUR SHOWCASE IN NORCAL By Mike Angel Lopez PhilBoxing.com Mon, 21 Jul 2014 This past Saturday at the Fat City gym owned by former 5-time Light Heavyweight Title contender Mexican/American Alvaro ?Indian Yaqui? Lopez, was the site for a ten card line up of some top amateur fighters from Stockton, Sacramento, Vallejo, Fairfield, Fresno and Visalia. The main event was headlined by female boxing. The tough Adriana Ramirez of theFat City gym and trained by Lopez was up against 16 year old Carmen Valenzuela of the Northside boxing gym from Visalia. The 16 year old Ramirez came into the fight at 129 ? pounds against a bigger Valenzuela who tipped the scales at 138 ? pounds. After taking two years off from boxing to pursue her other passion which is soccer, Ramirez was well prepared with three months of training for this matchup. Ramirez does her sparring against male boxers her weight and it has toughened her up to become the star of Fat City gym. The crowd of maybe 200 plus were on their feet?s watching the classic main event where Ramirez totally dominated the tough Valenzuela with classic boxing moves. The next warrior for Fat City gym was 11 year old Victor Mariquez who has an impressive 4 wins and 1 loss as an amateur was up against Pavel Sandoval of the Sacramento boxing club as both fighters came in at an exact weight of 67 ? pounds. Mariquez was in a tough battle against Sandoval but came out with an impressive UD from the USA boxing judges. In a test that would show if he is ready for the boxing world, Mickail Mandich of Fat City was making his amateur debut against Alejandro Zamora of Northside Boxing gym of Visalia. Mandich came in at 167 ? pounds and Zamora at 161 ?. Mandich is trained under the watch eye of Lopez and has big plans for this 16 year old kid. With fans and family cheering for Mandich , he pulled off a UD over the tough Zamora and is waiting for his next fight. Lopez has about 50 kids that train at his non profit boxing gym. The uncrowned champion who was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2007 and Ring Magazine 1980 Fight of the Year, plans bigger and better things for Fat City boxing gym. This coming October 4, the return of Iron Mike Tyson will be at ringside once again for the next Yaqui Lopez Boxing Invitational. Tyson came into the gym this past October 24, 2013 as a shock to the city of Stockton. Iron Mike was a big fan of Lopez in his boxing days. (Other matches) Alexis Rodriquez of the Sacramento Boxing club won a split decision over Leonel Salas Jr. of the East Side boxing gym of Stockton. Devante Sparks of the P.A.L. boxing club of Vallejo totally manhandled the tough Phillip Percy of the Weapons Factory boxing gym of Fairfield and won by a Referee stoppage in the 3rd round. Samuel Salas of the Eastside boxing gym of Stockton came out with a UD over Isai Sandoval of the Sacramento boxing club. Mustafa Moore of the Manteen boxing club of Sacramento got a Split Decision win over Jesus Lopez of the J.L. Tepito boxing gym of Fairfield. Dorrel Fore of Sacramento got a UD over Brandon Garcia of the Felipe?s boxing club from Lathrop. The grizzled 34 year old amateur Ronnie Chambers who trains out of the In the Corner boxing club won a split decision over Mathew Monroe of Manteen boxing club of Sacramento. The tough Russian Klaus Tafra of the Dark Star boxing gym from Sacramento won a UD over Cesar Lomeli. The event was highlighted by former 3X World Lighweight Champion Tony ?The Tiger?
