EDGAR SOSA KO'S GOLEZ, CHALLENGES VILORIA

PhilBoxing.com

WBC Emeritus and WBC International flyweight champion Mexican Edgar Sosa retained his title via technical KO at 2:30 of the seventh round over brave Filipino Roilo Golez tonight at Foro Polanco in Ciudad de Mexico.

Sosa looked flawless making good use of his advantage in reach and height as well as better technical skills to connect with solid blows to the head and midsection of the tough Filipino southpaw who was willing and courageous, but without the necessary combat weapons to put in trouble the more experienced Edgar Sosa, one of 118 world champions born in Mexico.

Without doubt the best round of the Filipino Golez was the first stanza, in which the kid from Compostela Valley managed to land some shots on Sosa's head and body. Those fast punches dished out by Golez were accurate and in enough quantity to make him win the first round, but the attacks lacked in power.

As soon as the bell for the second round chimed, Sosa took control of the battle with good combinations including perfect left crosses, continuous straight rights and several blows to the midsection of Golez which in sum took its toll on the smaller anatomy of the Pinoy.

The assault from the Mexican continued until the fateful seventh round in which Sosa connected with violent blows to the Filipino who was forced to retreat to the ropes where he had to endure a storm of Cleto Reyes thrown by the Mexican, which prompted the third man in the ring to correctly stop the punishment.

After his victory, Edgar Sosa revealed to the cameras of his interest in again battling former foe and current WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria, a dangerous Filipino fighter living in Hawaii who recently demolished popular Giovani Segura.

"He (Viloria) has scored some victories over some good Mexicans. I think a fight of me with him would be interesting. Those who have good memory would remember that I did beat Brian Viloria at the Alamodome," said Sosa during the post fight Televisa TV interview.

Edgar Sosa and Brian Viloria fought for the vacant WBC light flyweight world title in April of 2007.In that fight, the Mexican defeated Viloria by majority decision over twelve rounds at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas

An Edgar Sosa vs Brian Viloria rematch would be one of the more attractive combats for 2012.
