ELORDE BOXERS DEFEAT THAI FOES IN WBC TITLE FIGHTS

PhilBoxing.com

It was a triumph for Elorde boxers, Ryan Bito and Sylvester Lopez when they convincingly defeated their fancied Thai rivals via TKO yesterday night even as another Elorde boxer Jonathan Tacuning emerged victorious in his battle of attrition against his veteran Filipino opponent.

In the final fight of the triple main event of the ?Bakbakan sa Pasig? (?Slugfest in Pasig?) held at the Ynares Arena, Pasig City, Bito proved equal to the task when he stopped Thai defending champion Sooksan Caichan Saenmuangloe in the 10th round of their scheduled 12th round fight to wrest the WBC International Flyweight crown. It was a close fight until the time of the stoppage wherein Bito would be nailing his Thai opponent with vicious punches to the head and body and the latter tenaciously withstanding the onslaught. As soon as Bito would rest from his attack, Sanemuangloe would then be punching non-stop trying to wear Bito down with body blows even though most of those would be blocked by the elbows and gloves of Bito. So close the fight was that at the end of the eight round when the scores were announced via the WBC?s ?open scoring system?, two of the judges scored the fight even at 76-76 with the third judge having it Bito ahead by a close 77-75. Bito then came out strong in the 9th round and appeared to have easily won this round. Bito sustained his attack in the 10th round until he nailed his Thai opponent with a huge right hook buckling the knees of the latter in the neutral corner. Sensing blood, Bito immediately pounced on his wounded opponent unleashing a two-punch combo that penetrated the gloves of Sanemuangloe who appeared ready to go. It was at this moment that American international referee Gene del Bianco came to the rescue to protect Sanemuangloe from further punishment and resulting into an automatic TKO win for Ryan Bito and thus becoming the new WBC International Flyweight Champion. The time was 1:44 of the 10th round.

In the second main event fight, it was a total war between flyweights Jonathan Tacuning and Warlito Parrenas who were trading punches from the get go and getting the full attention of the crowd. In the third round, Parrenas rocked his opponent with an uppercut that buckled the knees of Tacuning who, surprisingly, recovered quickly. Parrenas would stagger Tacuning for the second time in the round but Tacuning once again proved his resilience to stay on his feet. The two warriors would continue to slug it out in the succeeding rounds with Parrenas appearing to get the better of them. However, just when he seemed to be on his way to dictating the fight, Parrenas was caught by a big left straight from Tacuning decking the former for the first time. Parrenas managed to beat the count but was still in daze when the action continued. A short left hook by Tacuning dropped Parrenas for the second time prompting referee Virgilio Garcia to waive off the fight. Tacuning would thus become the new WBC International Light Flyweight Champion. The time of the stoppage was 1:59 of the 6th round.

In the first fight of the triple main event, Sylvester Lopez successfully retained his WBC International Super-flyweight crown via a second round TKO victory over former WBC junior-flyweight interim champion Wandee Singwancha of Thailand. After a competitive first round, Lopez delivered a wicked left cross right at the bell that landed just perfectly square on Singwancha?s jaw, dropping the latter down to receive a count from referee Gene del Bianco. Singwancha, who once defeated Juanito Rubillar back in July 2006 for the WBC interim crown, apparently failed to recover from the shot and was dropped once again by a left uppercut from Lopez. Referee del Bianco would then proceed to waive off the fight giving Lopez a TKO victory at 2:10 of the second round.

Rounding off the results of the other bouts:

Jaypee Otilla scored two knockdowns in the second round and was ready to finish off a disorganized Jay Balido when referee Sammy Bernabe called it a stoppage handling Otilla a TKO victory in their scheduled 8-round bantamweight fight;

Elbert Guardario scored a first round knockdown over Robel Villegas en route to winning a close technical decision (47-46, 47-46, and 48-45) when a cut above Villegas left eye proved too serious prompting referee Sammy Bernabe to call a halt to the bout in the 5th round of a scheduled 8-round minimum-weight bout;

Jilo Merlin defeated Jovill Marayan via a unanimous decision (59-55, 59-55, 58-56) in their 6-round featherweight bout;

Chris Paulino proved to be the busier fighter than his opponent, Manny Talisic, and the former was rewarded with a majority decision victory (60-54, 58-56, and 57-57) in their 6-round flyweight bout;

Gabriel Altajeros fought back from a first round knockdown to score a split decision victory over Delgyn Degil in their 4-round flyweight bout (38-37 twice for Altajeros and 38-37 for Degil); and

Joe Maxin defeated Darwin Castro via a 3rd round stoppage in their scheduled 4-round super-featherweight fight.

The event was presented by the Elorde International Productions in coordination with Gov. Casimiro Ynares with Ted Lerner and the dazzling debonair, Boy Villanera, doing the ring announcing.
