SONSONA CONCLUDES TRAINING By Rob Cruz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Sep 2009 TORONTO -- Upon arriving in Toronto, Canada 'Marvelous' Marvin Sonsona (13-0, 12 KO?s) continued his training in Downtown Toronto?s Cabbagetown Boxing Club. Rich in Canadian Boxing history, the Cabbagetown Boxing club was founded by its Program Director Peter Wylie back in 1972. Mr. Wylie is an accomplished Olympic coach and former 1983 Canadian Coach of the Year. Notable Canadian boxers such as Shawn O?Sullivan, Pat Fennel, and Johnny Kalbhenn has made history at the Cabbagetown Boxing Club. Weighing in at 122lbs upon his arrival, Marvin finished his training regimen in good spirits and in top condition. He has the opportunity to make history and prove that he is battle ready for world class competition when he faces Jose Carita Lopez (39-7-2, 32 KO?s) from Puerto Rico this Friday in Casino Rama, Orillia, Ontario. There is a buzz layered with much anticipation in the air with many Filipino and Canadian Boxing fans about this upcoming Rumble at Rama edition and a number of us will be making the trip to Orillia which is a 90 minute drive from the Greater Toronto Area. A young and promising boxer coming from General Santos City awaits his destiny at becoming the WBO Super flyweight Champion. Win, lose or draw, the experience of being there to watch a Filipino Boxer in a title fight here in Canada gives us boxing fans hope that the sport of boxing is alive and well here. So far I?ve heard the tickets for Rumble at Rama IX has been excellent. Other bouts in the card are former IBF champion jr featherweights Steve Molitor vs Dario Azuaga and heavyweights Greg Kielsa vs. Kevin Montiy. Having read some constructive criticisms from different boxing resources including Pacland, I pitched seven questions to Marvin. RC: Some fans/critics are saying that a title fight is too early at this stage of your career, how have you prepared for Jose Carita Lopez ? MS: I feel good during this training and trained very hard, two months and 15 days now. RC: What do you know about your opponent Jose Carita Lopez and have you watch his fights yet? MS: Yes I?ve seen his fight, I plan to keep a distance from him and guard against his straight and right hook punches. RC: Which boxers would you like to be matched up in the ring in the near future? RC: Which Boxers inspire your style of boxing the most? MS: The boxers that inspire me are Gerry Penalosa, Manny Pacquaio, Nonito Donaire jr and AJ Banal. RC: Where would you like to see yourself progress in boxing 3 years from now? MS: Hopefully I could have a Championship by then. RC: What would you like to say to those who will be watching your match against Jose Carita Lopez? MS: Thank you for the support in Canada, the Filipino Community in Canada and the Cabbagetown gym. I would like to express my thanks especially those in General Santos City and Cebu. Thank my coaches Jhun Abrabio and Nonito Donaire Sr. and Delta Hotels for their hospitality. The presser for the Rumble at Rama IX is at 09/02/09-9:30 am at Delta Chelsea Hotel, Downtown Toronto and Weigh in at Days Inn Rama, Orillia, Ontario Canada Thursday morning?,more updates to come.
