MELLIGEN IN IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER LUQUE!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Jun 2009
True to his words, ALA fighter Mark Jason Melligen went to Mexico to win and win big, and that's just what he did as he stopped local fighter Fabian Luque in the second round just minutes ago in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Melligen knocked down Luque in the opening round, then followed it up with yet another knockdown in the second round prompting the referee to call a halt to the fight.
The win was Melligen's third consecutive win under the Top Rank banner, and much credit goes to Las Vegas-based Tony Martin who has never given up hope in helping and guiding the ALA fighter.
The victory also improves Melligen's record to 15 wins, 1 loss with 11 KO's, and lines him up for another fight on August 15 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. That fight will be on the undercard of the Nonito Donaire-Hugo Cazares and Steven Luevano-Bernabe Concepcion double header promoted by Top Rank.
Credit also goes to ALA chief trainer Edito Villamor, who also worked the corner with Martin, and serves as unofficial photographer of Team Melligen.
