CLARESSA SHIELDS VS. LANI DANIELS OPEN MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES PhilBoxing.com Fri, 25 Jul 2025 ![]() DETROIT (JULY 24, 2025) – Ahead of Saturday’s massive Claressa Shields vs. Lani Daniels event at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, competitors across the talent-stacked card participated in an open media workout at SuperBad Boxing Gym in Detroit on Thursday, July 24. The GWOAT, Claressa Shields (16-0, 3 KOs), will return home on Saturday, July 26, when she puts her Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship on the line in the main event at Little Caesars Arena against the reigning IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion from New Zealand, Lani Daniels (11-2-2, 1 KO). Embodying the Detroit fighting spirit and gearing up to compete in the highly anticipated co-main event, Tony Harrison (29-4-1, 21 KOs) boasts a highly decorated career that spans over fourteen years. On a mission to reclaim a world title, Harrison is set to step back into the ring for the first time since his WBO Interim Super Welterweight showdown against Tim Tszyu in 2023. A force in the super welterweight division, Harrison defeated Jermell Charlo in 2018 to become the WBC Super Welterweight Champion, giving Charlo his first defeat. Opposite Harrison will be Dominican Republic’s Edward Diaz (15-6, 12 KOs). A heavy-handed competitor, Diaz is on the heels of a knockout victory over Juan Martinez. Samantha Worthington (11-0, 7 KOs), who is co-promoted by Shields’ T-Rex Promotions and Salita Promotions, looks to take one step closer to achieving her world title dream when she collides with France’s Victoire Piteau (14-2, 2 KOs) for the WBA Jr. Welterweight Women’s Interim Title. ![]() In addition, surging Michigan-born prospects Leon Lawson III (17-1, 10 KOs), Da’Velle Smith (12-0, 8 KOs), and Jaquan McElroy (2-0, 1 KO) all return to the ring on July 26. Shields vs. Daniels will air live on the global home of boxing, DAZN. Shields, the most decorated female boxer in history, made headllines earlier this year by becoming the first woman ever to claim the Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship – and the first boxer, male or female, to achieve undisputed status in three weight divisions. Dmitriy Salita: President, Salita Promotions “We are approaching a sell-out crowd. It’s incredible how much Claressa has accomplished for women’s boxing and for the people of Michigan.” “My goal has been to bring championship boxing back to Detroit and the state of Michigan.” “There will be 19,000 people in the Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night, many of them from across the state of Michigan.” “Claressa takes no prisoners. She fights wherever there is the biggest and the best challenge. You’ve seen the challenge from Laila Ali. That is going to be the biggest boxing event in quite a long time.” Claressa Shields: Undisputed Heavyweight World Champion “I am happy. I get to fight on Saturday in front of thousands of people. I am sharing the card with Tony Harrison. What more can I ask for?” “For some reason this fight seems bigger than some of my past ones. I am a bigger and better athlete than I have ever been.” “I get up for all of my opponents because they want what I’ve got. Lani Daniels is very humble, but she wants the car, the chains, and the recognition. Regardless of how friendly and nice she is, if she could beat me down and knock me out, she would do it.” “My only goal is to go in there on Saturday night and show Lani Daniels that if she wants it, she will have to go through hell to beat me. She is an alright boxer, but I am greater than great.” “I have 16 wins, three knockouts, and zero losses, but every win that I have that wasn’t a knockout was a unanimous decision. I don’t have close fights.” Lani Daniels: IBF Light Heavyweight Champion “I’m grateful and pleased to be here. I love the challenge. I am soaking up all of this experience.” “I worked hard to be here and I am going to enjoy it. So many people wish they were me.” ![]() |
