CHARLY SUAREZ STOPS CASTANEDA IN THREE, CAPTURES WBO INT'L 130 LB TITLE

Suarez connects a left that drops Castaneda in the 3rd round.
Charly Suarez demolished late substitute Jorge Castaneda sending the former WBC Silver champion two times to the canvas en route to a 3rd round stoppage to capture the WBO International super featherweight title on the undercard of the Jaime Munguia vs Erik Bazinyan Top Rank Promotions card at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona Friday evening (Saturday morning in Manila).
Suarez immediately went to work in the first round throwing precise and fast combinations that buckled Castaneda towards the last minute of the round. Suarez continued to dominate the taller Texas native in the second round giving Castaneda no chance to use his height and reach advantage with his shifty defense and punishing offense.
Suarez connects with a right to the face of Castaneda.
Welt began to grow on Castaneda's right face courtesy of Suarez's non-stop onslaught. Finally Suarez caught Castaneda with a beautiful right-left straight combo to the head that dropped Castaneda to the canvas for the first time. A groggy Castaneda beat the count but went down again moments later flat on his back from a barrage of finishing punches from Suarez as the referee waved the fight off not even bothering to count. The end came at 2:22 of the third round.
Castaneda is a late replacement to Suarez's original opponent the highly rated super featherweight contender Andres Cortez who backed out after a reported training injury.
With the win Suarez improves his undefeated record to 18 wins with 10 stoppages while Castaneda dropped to 17-4-0, 13KOs.
