Final Rankings:
8.5 points---IM Kazybek Nogerbek (Kazakhstan), GM Emin Ohanyan (Kazakhstan)
8.0 points---GM Luka Budisavljevic (Serbia), GM Mamikon Gharibyan (Armenia), IM Tobias Koelle (Germany)
7.5 points---GM Aleksey Grebnev (Russia), GM Jose Gabriel Cardoso (Colombia), IM Rudik Makarian (Russia), IM Daniel Maravilla Quizon (Philippines), GM Anand Pranav (India), GM Aditya S Samant (India), IM Shrivatri Anuj (India), GM Pavas Santiago Avila (Colombia), IM Artiom Stribuk (Russia), GM Lemieux Shawn Rodrigue (Canada)

Manila---Grandmaster (GM) elect and International Master (IM) Daniel Maravilla Quizon missed the chance for the world crown after losing to Grandmaster (GM) Emin Ohanyan of Armenia in the last round but still finished a decent ninth in the FIDE World Junior Chess Championships 2024 at the Radisson Gift City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.

Quizon, the pride of Dasmarinas City, Cavite blew his chance for the title after committing a blunder on the 38th move capturing the bishop instead of pawn in the h3 square.

Quizon resigned in 40 moves of Modern defense.

Quizon had five wins, five draws and a loss at the end of the week-long tournament that ended last Thursday. He earned 9.0 points here to boost his rating to 2457.

Quizon failed to become the first Filipino world junior champion or surpass the third-place finish of Nelson "Jet" Mariano II in the 1994 edition of the tournament.

The world junior stint of Quizon is being supported by Kamatyas Chess Club headed by NM David Almirol and IM Roderick Riataza Nava.

Quizon, one of the top players of the star studded Dasmarinas Chess Academy under the guidance of mayor Jenny Barzaga, the late congressman Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga and national coach FM Roel Roel Alcana Abelgas is needed to reach 2500 elo rating points to complete this GM Title status. Quizon already achieved three (3) GM norms requirements.

Meanwhile, International Master (IM) Kazybek Nogerbek of Kazakhstan defeated former solo leader Grandmaster (GM) Mamikon Gharibyan of Armenia in 71 moves of Queen's Pawn Game to catch up with Ohanyan.

Nogerbek and Ohanyan tallied 8.5 points apiece, however the former (Nogerbek) had a better tie break points against the latter's (Ohanyan).

Nogerbek won the gold medal plus an outright Grandmaster (GM) title, Ohanyan settled for silver while Grandmaster (GM) Luka Budisavljevic of Serbia took the bronze.-Marlon Bernardino-
