T-Wolves Beat Thunder, Regain West Lead; Clippers Drop to 4fh Anew By Teodoro Medina Reynoso PhilBoxing.com Tue, 30 Jan 2024 In the battle of co-leaders, the Minnesota Timberwolves (32-14) defeated the OKC Thunder (32-15) 107-101 right in the Thunder home arena to regain solo leadership in the Western Conference of the ongoing 2023-24 NBA season. Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics (36-11) stretch their lead in the Eastern Conference with a home win over the New Orleans Pelicans 118-112 as its closest pursuers, the Milwaukee Bucks (32-15) lost on the road to the Denver Nuggets 113-107. The Los Angeles Clippers (30-15) failed to sustain their winning run falling on the road to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 107-117 to drop back to #4 in the West behind the Nuggets (32-15) which move back to tie for second with the Thunder. The victory strengthened the Cavaliers hold of the sixth place in the East. Karl Anthony Towns (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Rudy Gobert (12 points, 17 rebounds) anchored the TWolves win while getting adequate scoring support from Anthony Edwards (27 points), Jaden McDaniels (14 ) N Alexander Walker (12) and Jaden MczLaughlin (12). Shai Gilgeous Akexander posted his usual numbers with 37 points. He got scoring support from Jalen Williams (20) and Josh Giffey (13) but other Thunder players failed to make contributions that could have pushed their team on par with the T-Wolves. After a lean output versus the Clippers the last time, Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford again led Boston, which also got 20 points from Jrue Holiday and welcomed back Derrick White who chipped in 17. Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson were only the consistent performers from the Pelicans. The Clippers struggled against the size and ruggedness of the Cavaliers especially center Jarrett Allen and the hot shooting of Donovan Mitchell (28) although they got the usual output from star players Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the loss.
