Jessie Cris Rosales: A Plea for Compassion and Safety in the Ring By Editorial PhilBoxing.com Tue, 24 Oct 2023 The fate of Cebuano boxer Jessie Cris Rosales hangs in the balance as the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) in the Philippines faces mounting concerns regarding his well-being. Rosales, a resilient pugilist, has endured a series of brutal knockouts over the past six years, raising a compelling argument for a reevaluation of his participation in professional boxing. In a span of six years, Rosales has been on the receiving end of devastating knockout blows in six of his last eight fights, dating back to 2017. Despite these alarming statistics, the GAB's boxing department has persistently permitted Rosales to step into the ring, exposing him to further risk. His journey through the ring has been fraught with grim encounters. From a two-round knockout in Mexico to a punishing battle against Shakur Stevenson in Verona, New York, and subsequent defeats in Oxon Hill, Maryland, and Las Vegas, Rosales has suffered repeated losses. It's worth noting that even in his solitary "win" against Junny Salogaol in Bohol, he was pushed to his limits. Despite this worrisome track record, the GAB inexplicably greenlit Rosales for another fight, this time in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was once again dispatched in the first round. The question arises: has the GAB paid adequate attention to the well-being of this Filipino warrior, or do they require more evidence of his physical toll? Just last Saturday, Rosales was granted yet another opportunity to enter the ring by the GAB, only to be swiftly knocked out in a single round by Japanese boxer Mioto Noguchi. The accumulating signs are undeniable, but it remains uncertain whether the GAB is satisfied with Rosales enduring further punishment. This raises critical questions: Will the GAB convene a meeting to deliberate on the future of this valiant but beleaguered boxer, with a focus on safeguarding his life and health, as mandated by law? Has the GAB arranged for a comprehensive medical examination, covered by the board, to assess the physical and mental condition of Jessie Cris Rosales? The answers to these queries remain elusive, and doubts persist. Red flags are waving ominously, prompting the GAB and its leadership to address this critical issue. The well-being of a Filipino fighter hangs in the balance, and it is now incumbent upon the GAB to act decisively in the interest of protecting the life and health of Jessie Cris Rosales.
