ISAAC CRUZ DEMOLISHES EDUARDO RAMIREZ IN 2 ROUNDS By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Mon, 05 Sep 2022 ![]() Rising Mexican star Isaac Cruz wowed the Crypto.com Arena fans in Los Angeles with an emphatic demolition of Eduardo Ramirez sending his fellow Mexican to the canvas twice in the second round before veteran referee Jack Reis stopped the fight at 2:27 of the round to win the WBC championship eliminator Sunday night (Monday in Manila) on the main undercard of the Andy Ruiz vs Luis Ortiz heavyweight fight. From the get-go Cruz, true to his moniker as 'Pitbull' attacked Ramirez without letup but Ramirez, who has the height and reach advantage, calmly stay on the outside trying to potshot Cruz with counters as Cruz comes inside. In the second round, Cruz upped the ante by putting more pressure on the back-pedaling Ramirez. Midway in the round, Cruz connected with a flush left cross to the jaw of Ramirez that practically put the fight to a sudden end as Ramirez falls to the canvas hard. Although the wobbly Ramirez beat the count and convinced Referee Reis for the fight to continue, it was only a matter of moments before heavy handed Cruz closes the show. ![]() Immediately after the victory, Cruz called out Gervonta 'Tank' Davis for a rematch in their highly entertaining fight last December in which Davis won by close decision. Davis, who was in attendance, smiled and pumped his fist. A rematch between the two surely would be a bigger fight than the first one. The win however allowed Cruz to become the mandatory challenger to Devin Haney's WBC belt. Haney is the undisputed lightweight champion of the world who is scheduled to have a rematch with Aussie George Kambosos on Oct. 16 in Melbourne. Cruz said if the Davis rematch will not materialize, he wants to fight the winner of Haney-Kambosos. Cruz now improves to 24-2-1, 17KOs while Ramirez drops to 27-3-3, 12KOs.
