NBA Daily: Spurs Keep 23rd Consecutive Playoff Appearance Hopes Alive, Survive Magic 114-113

PhilBoxing.com

Boracay Island, Philippines – With top big man LaMarcus Aldridge sidelined for the second consecutive game due to a right shoulder injury, Trey Lyles and Rudy Gay stepped up big time to help the Spurs eke out a 114-113 victory over the Orlando Magic on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time) at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Lyles finished with a team high 20 points on an 8-for-13 field goal shooting, to go with 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block. Rudy Gay was equally impressive with 19 markers, 6 boards, 4 dimes, 1 interception, and 2 swats off the bench for the Spurs, who had seven guys in double figures.

Evan Fournier topscored for Orlando with 23, but failed to connect on the potential game-winning play, as he threw up an errant lay-up with 2.2 ticks remaining. Terrence Ross added 21 bench points for the Magic, who dropped to a 27-33 win-loss card, good for 7th place in the Eastern Conference team standings.

The Magic will travel home to host the Portland Trailblazers on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time).

Meanwhile, the Spurs, who improved to 25 wins and 33 losses, will host the Indiana Pacers on the same night.
