Pacquiao in 100 percent fighting form -- Buboy (Photos)

When you?re not practicing, remember that someone somewhere is practicing, and when you meet him he will win.

Believing in this proposition made popular by famous basketball coach Ed Macauley, Filipino World Boxing Association welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, indeed, is turning no stone unturned in his preparations for his coming title fight with crown pretender Adrien Broner.

He even dispensed with celebrating Christmas Day and New Year?s Day with his family and instead spent those days in training.

On Monday, New Yeaer?s Eve (Tuesday in Manila), Pacquiao, who is staking his belt against Broner on January 19 in Las Vegas, was seen scaling the perilous Griffith Park in Los Angeles leading his team of runners unmindful of the early dawn under 50F temperature.

After the long grueling six-mile uphill run, Pacquiao was at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood for a very long mitt session with consultant coach Freddie Roach plus a couple of rounds more with the balls.

Pacquiao was aptly rewarded, though, for his two-day, New Year efforts. On Wednesday (Thurday in Manila) chief trainer Buboy Fernandez and his training team, including conditioning coach Justin Fortune, Nonoy Neri and Roger ?Haplas? Fernandez, pronounced the reigning WBA 147-pound belt-owner 100 percent ready to fight anytime.

?Yeah, handang-handa na si Manny lumaban anytime from today,? the portly Fernandez said in a long distance call from Los Angeles.

?Manny has now reached his peak. Thank God the sacrifices he underwent from the time we pitched camp in Manila two months ago has now been rewarded,? Fernandez said.

?Imagine, before we left Manila, Manny had to shuttle back and forth daily from his house, working out on the road then to his Senate office before noon to attend sessions and meetings then to the gym,? he recalled.

?He brought his family with him here in the U.S. para at least magkakasama sila habang nag-e-ensayo, Pero di nila nagawa noong Pasko at Bagong Taon,? Buboy lamented. ?But I think he has been rewarded naman sa kanyang pagsa-sakripisyo. Manny?s now in tip-top shape at puwede nang lumaban kahit anong oras from today.?

Buboy said the remaining days in L.A. will be spent on the tapering off and maintaining the gains they have achieved going into the last 15 days of the fine-tuning program before the January 19 (January 20 in Manila).

?Relax na lang tayo sa mga susunod na mga araw ng training program although we also need to watch out so Manny could avoid getting sick. Lagnat, sipon, ubo, yan ang kalaban natin ngayon at this stage of preparations na dapat nating iwasan," he cautioned.


Manny Pacquiao is now ready to fight anytime, according to trainer Buboy Fernandez (R).

Buboy described his boyhood friend?s present status as the same as when he fought former Argentine WBA titleholder Lucas Matthysse, who Pacquiao TKOed in round seven to wrest the 147-pound diadem. ?His punching power, speed and stamina remain the same as in July.?

The Pinoy ring legend closes the door on his L.A. training on January 14 then proceed to Las Vegas for the final phase of his tapering off en route to day of the fight.
