For the 9th time in his career, James was blocked while trying to dunk

PhilBoxing.com

The Brooklyn Nets ran their longest winning streak in nearly four years to six games with a 115-110 victory on Tuesday night, emphatically stopping James on his first shot and then holding him off down the stretch.

But that?s not the whole story behind the Nets? triumph.

The NBA world saw one of the rarest sights in basketball Tuesday night: a block on a LeBron James dunk attempt.

Early in the first quarter of the Lakers' game against the Nets, James drove the lane and went up for a dunk. He was met at the rim by second-year center Jarrett Allen.

And Allen came up the winner.

ESPN Stats & Info revealed that it was just the only ninth time in James' career that he was blocked on a dunk attempt out of the 1,850 times he attempted to throw down in his illustrious career. To that point, it was mighty impressive of Allen.

It was a big moment in a big win for the Nets, who won their sixth game in a row ? the longest current winning streak in the NBA.

"If you go up and you block it, you're going to be on the highlight. You get dunked on, you're going to be on the highlight. So just go up and protect the rim," Allen told reporters of the play as reported by ESPN.

Allen?s block on James, though, came as a mere a blip on LeBron?s night. He finished with 36 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs, and dished out eight assists.

?He?s in his 20s, I?m in my 30s. Takes me a little longer to get warmed up," James, for his part, said of Allen's defensive gem.

Allen became just the eighth player to block a James dunk ? per ESPN's SportsCenter, Amar'e Stoudemire accomplished the feat twice.

"That's a helluva list to be on," Allen said. "(James is) an amazing player. I got the chance to do it, so I'm on the list forever now."

D'Angelo Russell had 22 points and a career high-tying 13 assists against his former team as Brooklyn continued its recovery from an eight-game skid by hanging on in front of a loud, large sellout crowd of 17,732 that alternated cheering when the Lakers seized the momentum and when the Nets regained it.
