Second Overtime: Cebuanos watch Bulls stomp Hornets at United Center

PhilBoxing.com

CHICAGO -- After losing their first three starts in this young NBA season, the Chicago Bulls flirted with disaster before escaping with a suspenseful 112-110 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night (Thursday AM Philippine time) at the United Center.

Once again, Zach LaVine's talent overflowed like an angry river after a flood, spilling with 32 points, four rebounds and five assists. The 23-year old former slam dunk champion soared over Charlotte's suspect interior defense, sinking 10 of 22 field goals.

LaVine capped his game-long brilliance with two pressure-packed free throws in the final 6.2 seconds of play which sealed the Bulls' first win of the season dull, frustrating start to the season.

Kemba Walker sort of under performed with just 23 points, 12.6 below his average coming in. But despite nine of 14 field goals, including three of nine from long distance, his stroke was still a joy to watch.

A near sell-out crowd of 19,170 witness the showdown.

Among those souls were Mervin del Mar of Mandaue and Omar Bustamento of Carmen. They were joined by Jerry Malagsic of Bacolod and Guiller Samon of Cavite. The four Filipino engineers are here in Chicago training for Teradyne, an electronics giant with 4,600 employees and a staggering revenue of $2.1 billion last year.

Marvin and company also marveled at Cameron Payne, the oft-criticized former Thunder who slipped into injured Kris Dunn's shoes and sizzled with seven triples for 21 points while directing the Bulls offense with remarkable aplomb for 30 minutes and 52 seconds.

I gladly showed them a little bit around the arena, clicked some photos before settling into our respective seats.

Going to a Bulls game isn't a cheap endeavor and the four amigos paid good coin for the experience. And while they may be lighter in the pockets, they are richer in memories.
