TEPORA STOPS ORTEGA IN 9TH, CAPTURES WBA INTERIM FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Jul 2018

AXIATA ARENA, KUALA LUMPUR ? Jhack Tepora of the Philippines stopped highly-touted Edivaldo Ortega of Mexico in the 9th round to capture the WBA Interim world featherweight title here Sunday morning on the undercard of Pacquiao-Matthysse WBA welterweight championship.
Tepora attacked the body early as Ortega looked to dictate the tempo. It soon became clear that Tepora was ahead in the power department as Ortega showed hesitation to come inside. In the 5th round, Tepora began to back up Ortega, a strategy devised by his team earlier in order to nullify the Mexican's offensive weapon.
Every time Ortega comes in, Tepora was there to counter and finally in the 9th round, Tepora landed a picture perfect right uppercut that sent Ortega to the canvas for the first time. Ortega beat the count but Tepora was there to finish him off, connecting with telling blows to the head and body that forced the Roberto Ramirez Jr of Puerto Rico to stop the contest in order for Ortega to escape further punishment.
Tepora became the second Filipino to win a world title in the last three days after Vic Saludar won the WBO minimumweight title in Japan last Friday when he unset former champ Ryura Yamanaka of Japan.
Tepora has now upped his record to 22 wins with 17 knockouts while Ortega dropped to 26-2-1, 12KOs.
