Oscar de la Hoya to help Pacquiao promote fight against Matthysse in Malaysia By Leo Reyes PhilBoxing.com Tue, 26 Jun 2018 ![]() Golden Boy Promotions owner Oscar de la Hoya is flying to Malaysia in the next few days to help his former foe Manny Pacquiao in promoting his title fight against Lucas Matthysse of Argentina on July 15 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur. De la Hoya is confident the Pacquiao-Matthysse fight will happen as scheduled contrary to persistent reports about possible cancellation of the fight due to the reported failure of MP Promotions to fulfill its promotion timeline and financial commitments. Pacquiao?s own MP Promotions is handling the promotions of the Pacquiao-Matthysse fight in collaboration with Oscar de la Hoya?s Golden Boy Promotions. "I read comments on Bob Arum talking about Lucas Matthysse, look. We have a fight with Pacquiao coming up within three weeks. He's looking strong, he's looking great, looking forward to it and fight is full steam ahead," De La Hoya told Boxing Scene Monday. "I feel very, very confident the fight is going to happen, let's put it that way," was De La Hoya's answer when asked if he was given assurances that they would receive the money due to them. "I can't give you specific details of our deal but I feel very, very confident it's going to happen." he added. In the same report, De La Hoya said he has already bought a ticket to Malaysia to help promote the fight with Pacquiao. "I might be there for about ten days, I want to go out there and help Manny promote and do my rounds in Malaysia. I have my plane tickets already. So we're set to go, we have a fight," De La Hoya insisted. Earlier Pacquiao?s longtime promoter Bob Arum issued statements alleging that Pacquiao has failed to pay its financial obligations on time including the payment timeline for the fee of Matthysse. Arum claims that only $500,000 has been paid of the agreed $2,500,000 and the balance of $2,000,000 which should have been placed in escrow has not been complied with. In his ESPN report dated June 21, Dan Rafael stated: ?An initial payment of $500,000 was made to the Golden Boy/Matthysse camp when the fight was signed, but the rest of the money for their side -- $2 million, according to a source -- is more than a month past the deadline for when it was supposed to be deposited into an escrow account to hold the money until after the fight takes place?. Barely three weeks away from his title fight, Pacquiao has yet to hear positive and encouraging words from his longtime promoter. What Pacquiao gets from credible sources is Arum?s negative prognosis about Pacquiao?s inability to make good his commitments to make available the needed funds to stage the Pacquiao-Matthysse fight. Arum has shown displeasure over the way Pacquiao?s MP Promotions is handling the preparations for the July 14 fight, noting that Pacquiao has also failed to make timely decisions on television distribution in the US which could affect the revenue targets in the US market. Arum?s Top Rank Promotions isn?t handling the Pacquiao-Matthysse fight but it will take care of the television distribution in the US.
