NBA -- Celtics nail second seed with win over Bulls
By Oliver Iglesias PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 Apr 2018

BOSTON ? The Boston Celtics solidified their hold for the second spot in the East as they beat the Chicago Bulls 111-104 before a sellout crowd on Friday night at the TD Garden.
Guard Jaylen Brown scored 32 points and Greg Monroe annexed a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead two other Celtics in double figures. Power forward Marcus Morris had 12 points before he was ejected with 1:44 left in the 3rd quarter along with Chicago?s Bobby Portis, while guard Jabari Bird added 15 points and 3 assists.
New Boston recruit Jonathan Gibson ? who had a recent stint with the Qingdao Double Star Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) -- contributed 9 points and 2 assists in his first Celtics game. The NBA granted the Celtics a hardship roster spot ? the latter offering it to Gibson -- after a series of player injuries to the team.
Chicago held on to a 58-55 lead at halftime but was unable to sustain it as Boston broke an 86-all deadlock in the final quarter with a three-point dagger by Gibson to gain the upper hand, 89-86, and never relinquished it since.
Boston now has a 54-25 record and secures the 2nd seed in the East while Milwaukee, Miami and Washington are still battling it out for the last three playoff berths with only 3 games left in the regular season. The 7th seed becomes the Celtics? 1st round opponent.
Chicago was led by guard Sean Kilpatrick and Finn rookie sensation Lauri Markkanen with 24 and 20 points, respectively.
Boston went 45-for-81 for a 55.6% field goal conversion while Chicago had 40-for-86 for 46.5% clip.
The Celtics face the Atlanta Hawks this Sunday, April 8.
