Mick Conlan wins debut at The Garden
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 18 Mar 2017

New York - It was a sea of green in the streets of Midtown Manhattan today as millions celebrated St. Patrick's Day in New York City.
It was also a sea of green inside the Theatre of Madison Square Garden after the annual parade as a crowd of 5000 plus came, cheered and supported Michael "Mick" Conlan's professional debut at the smaller theatre of the iconic venue.
Conlan of Belfast, Ireland did not disappoint his countrymen and fans inside and outside the sold-out arena as he disposed his first opponent as a pro - Tim Ibarra (4-4, 1 KO) of Denver, Colorado within 3 rounds of a scheduled six round Super Bantamweight fight.
The 25 year old decorated amateur and Olympian dominated Ibarra in all of the first three rounds. He jabbed and followed that with hard straights and hooks to the head and body of his opponent.
A barrage of heavy punches emanated from Conlan in the final minute of the second as Ibarra covered and held for dear life.
The young Irish fighter then finished the job in the first minute of the next round as he continued his assault on Ibarra who did not show any retaliation prompting Referee Benjy Esteves to halt the fight at the 59 second mark of the 3rd.
Popular Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, Conor Mcgregor, draped with the Irish flag, walked out with Conlan to the ring to the delight of the fans in the venue. He also yelled instructions at Conlan from ringside who also did not disappoint his biggest fan with his rousing win.
McGregor celebrated with the rest of the arena as the decision to halt the fight was made by Esteves. In his jubilation, he threw the flag that he has in his hand and that landed in the ropes as the crowd stood up from their seats to cheer Conlan's big debut.
It was a festive end for St. Patrick's Day in the Big Apple.
