JHONNY GONZALEZ KO?S OVER-MATCHED HIROTSUGU YAMAMOTO IN 1ST ROUND
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 26 Sep 2016

Jhonny Gonzalez poleaxed overmatched Japanese fighter Hirotsugu Yamamoto one second to spare before the end of the first round, at the Arena Oasis Cancun in Quintana Roo.
The WBC reported that before this mismatch, Jhonny`s career record is 61-10 with 51 KO`s, while southpaw Yamamoto`s efforts were 19-12-2, with just three KO`s!
Defending his silver WBC international super featherweight title, Jhonny dug hooks into the body of his hesitant and pawing Japanese opponent, then moved upstairs to land a right hook, which smartly sent Yamamoto to the canvas. He bravely got up, but wasn`t able to effectively launch any meaningful attack.
The WBC reported that ?just before the bell to end round one, Jhonny swung in a devastating left hook, which exploded on Yamamoto`s jaw. Felled by this massive- missive, the hapless Japanese helplessly crashed to the canvass with his right leg buckled underneath him. There was real concern as Referee Manolo Alcocer and the Ring doctor attended to Yamamoto.?
Yamamoto was out for the count, and dazed for some minutes. "Action" as it was...halted at two minutes and fifty nine seconds.
One of Gonzalez? defeats was at the hands of sweet-punching Filipino southpaw Gerry Penalosa who knocked him out in the 7th round in the Philippines vs The World face-off at the Arco Arena in Sacramento on August 11, 2007 when Gerry ripped a left hook to Johnny?s liver sending him to the canvas for the full count.
At the time of the spectacular ending the former World Boxing Council flyweight champion Penalosa was behind on the scorecards of Steve Morrow 58-56 and CJ Ross 59-55 while Ralph McKnight had it even at 57-57.
