Special Olympics World Games 2015 opens with a bang (PHOTOS)

LOS ANGELES --A star-studded opening ceremonies highlighted the opening of the Special Olympics World Games 2015 here in this beautiful city of angels.
An estimated 62,000 participants from 65 countries were on hand while personalities from all over the world also gathered to witness one glorious night for special Olympians who are vying for the gold.
The simple refusal to give up was the message embraced by the almost 7,000 athletes participating in this every four years competition.
There was no shortage of star power Saturday night. Among those present were pop star Justin Bieber, soaking in the inspiring atmosphere at LA Coliseum. Pussy Cat Doll Nicole Sherzinger led the singing of the US National anthem.
There were speeches from Jimmy Kimmel, Eva Longoria and performances from Cody Simpson, Becky G, Cassadee Pope, Stevie Wonder & Avril Lavigne kept the crowd entertained and the athletes motivated.
Michael Phelps, undoubtedly the greatest olympian of all time was in a light moment and was friendly enough to take selfies with athletes, families this writer. Phelps ushered in the raising of the Olympic flag, while ambassadors Dikembe Mutombo, Colin Farell respectedly led their countries delegations.
The Philippines was represented by 22 athletes who came in with their barong tagalog and Maria Clara outfits. Haven?t seen those attires in a while and witnessing the sight from our athletes in a global competition makes us proud to be Pinoy.
