Terence Crawford KO 9 Yuriokas Gamboa: Rising undefeated lightweight star Terence Crawford (27-0, 14 KOs) captured the biggest win of his illustrious career to date in front of his hometown fans at the at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska when he rallied in the middle rounds and came roaring back to stop previously unbeaten Cuban phenom Yuriokas Gamboa (26-1, 13 KOs) in the ninth. Gamboa got off to a fast start and built an early lead with some fast hands and superb athleticism but Crawford adjusted, switched to soutpaw and dropped Gamboa hard in Round 5. Gamboa was in trouble but showed the heart of a warrior to trade punches in the ensuing rounds despite giving away size and strength to the bigger Crawford. Crawford dropped the Cuban again in the eighth and then twice more in the ninth (after eating a big shot himself earlier in the stanza) to score the dramatic stoppage win! With the win Crawford retains his WBO lightweight title and now looks poised to raise his star in the sport in the coming years.
