Rabbits are taking over the world! Every morning that I wake up, there they are, in my backyard, and eating my grass. It’s just like that movie: “Night of the Lepus,” where mutated rabbits that are gigantic terrorize a small town. Granted, these rabbits are not terrorizing me, but they know no fear. I walk close to them and they don’t budge…just keep on eating that grass. They look at me as if to say: “Don’t try it Bambino, or it is Night of the Lepus 2: Geno’s Last Stand.” I cannot prove it, but I believe that they had something to do with the mouse family invading my house. Rodents work together. There are many ways that I don’t want to die: burnt alive, drowned, trampled to death by the crowd at a Bee Gees concert, and of course, mauled to death by vicious rabbits.
Is playing the spoons a real skill and/or instrument to begin with? You always see that, don’t you? A group of people, each playing some instrument that you recognize and there is some reject slapping two spoons together on his thigh. It is a joke and an insult to the real musicians. You could argue that all noises should constitute music, but then I would advise you to hang out with my Father for a day and decide if his noises are music, you moron. Playing the spoons pisses me off. I’m sorry. It just does. No disrespect to everyone out there that are masters of the spoons, but I just don’t approve. I hope that you understand.
Do you know what is really messed up? The lottery. You see, I don’t play the lottery and I will never and I repeat, NEVER buy a scratch ticket (unless the mood strikes me right or I have a dream about winning on one), but for the people that do and win big…they certainly get screwed by the Government. Okay, if you win a million dollars on a ten dollar scratch ticket, let’s say. Now, they didn’t pitch in for that ten dollars, did they? But, they take 40% of your winnings in some sort of perverse kickback scheme. It’s rigged too. Only elderly people win and that is because the winnings are normally non-transferable, and the clock is running on these old people. They may get the first few pay checks, but then they drop and the Government recovers 90% of their money. It is time for a change! Let the 2 or 3 out of the ten million that play, that win, keep the winnings, tax free. It won’t happen, but this scheme proves that Don King has nothing on the government.
How about a movie review? I just watched: “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” with Jim Carrey, who plays Count Olaf, a man, distantly related to these three children that come to live with him. His intent is to kill all three, and receive the wealth that they will rightfully inherit in the future. Now, I’m a Jim Carrey fan, surely, but this movie just didn’t do it for me. Keep in mind, that I am in the minority that does not like the Harry Potter movies or the Lord of the Ring entries. This movie had the same feel of one of those sorts of flicks and I really didn’t care for it. Jim Carrey was obviously trying very hard to be funny and failed miserably. I was going to shut off this film, but my wife liked it and wouldn’t let me. She loves Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and musicals! Oh God, do I hate musicals. So, to wrap up this Lemony Snicket flicket (good joke, huh?), I give it a 2/10…very poor.
Now, let’s get to the mailbag…
WHY DO YOU HATE LENNOX LEWIS?
Geno,
Why do you guys hate Lennox Lewis so bad? To try and say Wladmir Klitschko is anywhere near Lennox in terms of ability or chin is ridiculous. Lennox beat EVERYMAN he ever faced, sure he lost twice but each time he defeated himself. When Lewis was properly motivated and felt the fear he was as close to unbeatable as we have ever seen. He defeated Ruddock, Tucker, Bruno, Morrison, Mercer, McCall, Golota, Holyfield (Twice), Grant, Tua, Rahman, Tyson, V Klitschko (The better of the 2 brothers while past his prime and rusty).
Do you hate him because he beat your top guys? Do you hate him because he beat Tyson? Klitschko I guess is easy to like. He is on top in the worst heavyweight division of all time, yes even worse then the 80’s, I mean they were fat and drug addicts but at least they had talent. Klitschko has lost to Purrity, Sanders and Brewster and he hasn’t beaten ANYONE of note. I for example rate Mike Tyson an all time great.
He transcended the sport, he revived the division. Sure he beat up on a poor division but he had an era and was thrilling to watch. I can get past all the repugnent things he has done and rate him regardless of how repulsive he has been or his nationaility. I look at him on his merits as a BOXER. For you to be a truly great boxing writer, you need to do the same. I stumbled on this site by accident but I’m impressed. I will be on here more in the future.
Thanks, Tony Smith, UK.
Tony,
I am glad that you stumbled across this site and I can tell that you are a newbie because I have been a Lennox Lewis supporter since his destruction of Razor Ruddock. I was in the minority that believed and still do believe that Riddick Bowe was afraid to fight him. I would actually pick Lewis to defeat Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes if all were in their prime. Lewis is a handful for any fighter and with his size, defense, and skill, I don’t see many people having their way with him. People always argue: “Oh Geno, he got knocked out by the mediocrities: Hasim Rahman and Oliver McCall. What about that? What the @#$@# about that!” Well, nobody is perfect and everyone has an off night. When he was focused, he destroyed both of them. But I still don’t forgive him for making Oliver McCall cry. He must have said something to hurt his feelings, like: “Atomic bulls suck. Your nickname is for losers.” That can hurt somebody’s feelings, Tony.
Lewis would cut through the Klitschkos like a hot knife through butter, even if he wasn’t in his prime. A fat and under prepared Lewis DEFEATED Vitali Klitschko. “Well, Geno, he was doing good though and woulda won if he didn’t get cut.” It’s nonsense. I encourage everyone to watch the fight and watch the last 2 rounds. Klitschko was on his way out. He was holding on for dear life and Lewis was killing his body. Lewis is an underrated brawler and so too is underrated is his defense.
Mike Tyson, by the way, is an all time great…one of the best fighters that I have ever seen. Fat & Drug Addicts…the 1980’s heavyweights, sure, but like you said, they were better than what we have now. If Tony “TNT” Tubbs was around today in his prime, he would tear through all of these pretenders. Bring me a Pinklon Thomas…a Tim Witherspoon…a Tony Tucker…or a Frank Bruno. They would send these guys packing pretty quickly. By the way, Tony Tubbs beat Riddick Bowe when they fought professionally. He did and he got robbed. Tubbs, count that as a victory my friend.
Wlad’s biggest wins were over former middleweight, Chris Byrd, and Jameel McCline. He also has a win over 75-year-old Ray Mercer. Wlad is not a great fighter, but he is pretty good offensively. I would like to see him rematch “The Touch of Sleep,” DaVarryl Williamson. I had the feeling that Wlad was going to lose by KO had the fight went on. If it is a boxing match, Wlad does good. If it is a fight, we are going to see him crumble. Brock needs to be aggressive and he may have a chance.
IRON MIKE’S COMEBACK
Whats good Geno?
Guess what, I caught Cinderella and Poison in concert last month… it was killer! But I wanted to ask, why are so many people showing such animosity towards Tyson? He said recently that these exibitions would not help his financial state tremendously, but they would help him not feel so depressed. I mean, my heart goes out to the guy because I think we can all relate to that. If Tyson wants to fight, let him fight. He isn’t hurting me by fighting, and to be honest, he isn’t hurting boxing. You and I have seen eye to eye on a lot of things in the past, so I just wanted to get your take on Tyson.
Nate
Nate,
Hmm…what’s good? Not much. As you know, my car broke down, and now my wife’s car (2002 Chevy Malibu) needs 800 smackers worth of work because these jerks said my warranty ran out last month! They are so lucky that I’m a nonviolent man or they would be holding ice packs on their grapes right now. The GM people actually have a class action lawsuit because of this problem, which is a defect with the intake valve, which means that not only am I getting screwed, but I’m also getting done dry. I’m going to have to eat it on this one.
Mike Tyson is not hurting nor helping boxing with this exhibition tour. I think that if anything, the people should understand what they are going to see. They are going to see four rounds of not so hot boxing, with a former great champion struggling through the contest. I would love to go to one of these things and I hope that he makes his way to New England. I have always wanted to see Mike Tyson fight, and it would be great to do so.
The people cannot expect Tyson-Spinks, and they should not hold his past against him. He has done questionable things and some things that I did not agree with, such as head-butting Kevin McBride and trying to break Frans Botha’s arm, but I won’t call him a rapist because I’m not sure and his trial was a joke and the ear-biting can be justified as a retaliation for the head butts that he was receiving from Evander Holyfield. I did not appreciate him telling people of the press that he wanted to stomp their children’s testicles. My son is nearly 2 years old and he is far too young to have his testicles stomped.
People love a villain and that is what Mike Tyson is. He has been painted that way and doesn’t really discourage it anymore. He uses it as a tool to generate business, as he did when he said that he wanted to fight women in the ring and that he was serious. The press jumped on it. It was absurd, but Tyson played them like a harp. He is not an idiot.
Cinderella & Poison: that sounds too good to be true! I like both bands, but I heard that Judas Priest and Iron Maiden were supposed to tour together and that would be awesome! I’m not big on concerts, but I would love to see Maiden and Priest. Cinderella & Poison would not be bad though, especially if they brought Warrant, Kix, Hurricane, Danger Danger, Winger, W.A.S.P., Sleez Beez, Baton Rouge, Skid Row, Dokken, Vinnie Vincent Invasion, White Lion, Great White, and Whitesnake with them. I want to know where the down boys go, if you read me.
EVANDER OVERSIGHT
Hi Geno,
Looking at your list of greatest heavy weights I thought there may been an oversight. The Real Deal is not one of them. Considering he is the only one to win the title 4 different times, consdiering he did this not being a legitimate heavy weight, considering he may be the most well conditioned heavy weight anybody has ever seen (look at those FAT tub of lards we have for heavy weights nowadays!!), considering nobody has given Iron Mike as bad a beating as he had done, considering most of his fights were wars of attrition….are we being a bit unfair here?
Cheers
Jimbo
Jimbo,
I am willing to admit that Evander was an oversight, but it may have been a subconscious one. At one time, I was a huge fan of Holyfield, and he did beat some great fighters: George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Michael Moorer, Larry Holmes, Ray Mercer, Michael Dokes, and Vaughn Bean. Okay, I should have left Vaughn Bean out. Anyway, he did a lot of things the right way in the beginning, but now, has been reduced to an old man that uses his head as a third fist. His big stance on morality is shaken by his promiscuity. I hate people that go with: “Do as I say, not as I do,” instead of: “Do as I do.”
Now, 4-Time Heavyweight Champion….hmm… Okay, let me put it this way: no way. I will grant you 3 time, but to call him a 4 time champ is ridiculous. The WBA did what Don King wanted them to do. How many shots at Lennox Lewis does Holyfield get? He lost the first 2 for sure. What is it, 50 strikes and you’re out for Evander? He and the promoters have managed to prevent deserving fighters from getting a chance at a title because of their greed and Evander’s impossible dream to be a champion.
Evander Holyfield-John Ruiz is not a bout between championship level fighters. It is a spent force facing a mediocre over-achiever. I have a lot of respect for John Ruiz. He took the clubbing style that he had, mixed in some holding, and beat people with his grit. Mad props to him there, but he is no way a dominant heavyweight champion. He is a title holder. Ruiz would have never been in the picture, had he not signed with Don King in the first place. The WBA is filthy. Lennox Lewis was the champion and they watered down the title and it hasn’t been the same since.
Holyfield head butted the hell out of Iron Mike, and granted Iron Mike is no saint, but it doesn’t justify what Evander now does. When his skills diminished, he became the dirtiest fighter in the game. Look at Hasim Rahman. He got butted into a loss. Chris Byrd got butted a bunch. Mike Tyson was extremely fouled.
So, to sum up: Evander Holyfield is on my top 10 of greatest heavyweights, and belongs on the poll, but he is overrated when it comes to morals in my opinion.
HATE MAIL
Geno,
I am going against the norm here, and say, your show is a joke, your bag is just a bunch of rambling on and on which nobody cares to hear about your life or movie reviews. Try reviewing some real films like AFI does.
At times your bag can be ok at best, but most of the time, crap like the rest of them. I know this will not make your bag but just stating my thoughts here. Don’t feel bad, I think all mail bags are $hit on these boxing sites. So much $hit, that I am going back to just reading Ring Magazine.
Signed,
Ticked Off
Ticked Off,
You got what you wanted…you are in my bag. Now, I was debating whether or not to put you in because there wasn’t anything really constructive. “Geno, your show (The Boxing Show, the best boxing related show on the net which can be seen on RSRTV, and I encourage everyone to see it no matter what one moron might say) is a joke because…” There is no because here.
“Your bag is just a bunch of ramblings on.” Haven’t you heard me before say that I’m a rambling man? I ramble all of the time. And try reviewing movies like the AFI does? AFI: Adult Film Industry? AFI: Animal Fondlers Inc.? AFI: A F’ing Idiot? (I didn’t know that you did movie reviews) AFI: Alligator Fans International? Yeah, they all do good movie reviews for sure. Good point.
Nobody cares about my life? Why that comment right there deserves a kick in the grapes. Don’t worry about me feeling bad. Your opinion would have to mean something to me. Sure, I appreciate every RSR Reader, but you were not constructive. What I encourage you to do is to sit down on your sofa, and really think about what you don’t like and then write it all down and then send it to me. Concentrate! You don’t seem like the brightest star in the sky, so you need to take it really slow before contacting me again.
RESPONSE TO JONATHAN
Hi Geno, allow me to response to Jonathan. I’m a Pacfan for sure… He’y Jonathan, how are you? Hope that you are not sour graping that Pacman tops the poll everytime he’s on it… Listen to me and listen to me good.. If you want your fighter tops the poll vote everyday.. For us pacfan, Pacman is the best superfeatherweight of all time.. Thanks you Geno…
Rickwithak
Rickwithak,
Hey Jonathan, if I were you, I’d be pissed off. I wouldn’t let anyone call my grapes sour and get away with it.
PACMAN VS. JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ
consider if julio cezer chavez and pacman are contemporaries and both at their prime… who would you consider will win if they will clash in the ring? and why?
tnx algy
Algy,
Julio Cesar Chavez is the best Mexican fighter of all time and was relentless and powerful, hitting his opponents with bone-breaking punches and never giving up (until later in his career). To beat him, you had to be slick and out-box him. You are not going to knock him out and that would be Manny’s plan. The body work by Chavez and the iron chin would be enough to TKO Manny late in the bout. Pacquiao may rock Chavez from time to time, but he was an exceptional fighter…one of a kind that will go down in history as one of the greatest. Manny would have his hands full.
MIXED BAG
Geno,
Remember that email from one dude(tte? LOL.)”TAKE THAT CUTIE HOME WITH YOU????
“Hi Geno,This is urgent. You need to know that in the early 1990s, an ice cream commercial used to air in the UK. It had a song which went like this:
“Gino, oh Gino Ginelli, ice cream of Italia, its the choc and nut, mint choc-cino, tutti frutti what a cutie, take the Gino home with you.”
To which you replied these classic Geno-esque quotable?:
“I appreciate the information and maybe that is what inspired my wife to marry me. It was either my personality or my choco-nuts as you call it. I will have to ask her and get back to you.”
Absolutely friggin’ HILARIOUS!!! I was rolling with laughter, that I nearly bang my head to the computer screen… Can’t wait on the wife’s answer on them, “choco-nuts.” ROFLOL!!!
To the questions: What can you say now about my man Kessler after the Beyer drubbing? How would you predict a Kessler-JC match-up turn out?
One more thing: I read somewhere that Arum was saying something like the Pac is and would still be fighting under Top Rank, post-Grand Finale? Is not Pac signed with GBP already? What is the inside score here???
Thanks for enlightening and entertaining. RSR RULEZZ!!! Hail the Rambobambino!!!
Vicv
Vicv,
Be careful dude…don’t hit your head! I’m glad that I could amuse. Joe Calzaghe would be definitely favored in my book. Calzaghe is one of the best in the game right now and what he has is a genuine feel for it and can adjust to anything. Most picked Jeff Lacy to trample him. Only a few real experts (like me) picked Calzaghe. Damn, I’m good. Kessler would have a puncher’s chance, but I still think that Joe is the man. A Kessler-Lacy bout would be interesting though.
Manny is a big attraction in boxing and everyone and their creepy uncle will be fighting for him. Do you have a creepy uncle? I think that everyone does. If you don’t, I have quite a few that I can lend and/or sell to you. What sort of creepy are looking for: fat creepy, body odor creepy, 50 years old and lives with mother creepy, or won’t stop looking at me creepy? Email me and I will tell you the rates.
RSR Rules and I love the name: Rambobambino!!!
Okay that is all for this Saturday’s mailbag. See you in a week…
