Z “THE Dream” Gorres will fight for the WBO super flyweight title against Mexican champion Fernando Montiel on Dec. 9 in the United States.
His handlers got confirmation from his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar De La Hoya and WBO official Leon Panoncillo Jr. for the fight.
“Eric Gomez of GBP and Leon Panoncillo of WBO informed us that Z Gorres’ title fight might be held on Dec. 9 instead of Dec. 15,” ALA Boys manager Antonio Lopez Aldeguer said in his text message.
Preparing
The former OPBF super-flyweight champion is now preparing for this career- defining fight and is now ready to go to the US to join his stablemate Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista and trainer Edito Villamor who are now at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.
Both Gorres and Montiel are under promotional contracts with the Golden Boy Promotions.
No stranger
Montiel is no stranger to Gorres who fought in the undercard of the Johnny Gonzalez vs. Montiel WBO bantamweight championship last May 27 in Home Depot Center in Carson City, CA.
Gorres saw how Gonzales won the fight by split decision, handing Montiel his second defeat in his career.
Montiel, nicknamed Cochulito, carries a 32-2-1, 24KOs ring record while the Cebuano Gorres holds a 24-1-1, 14KOs card.
