FILIPINO boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao tipped the scales at 138.75 lb yesterday during a World Boxing Council-mandated 30-day weigh-in supervised by WBC representative Rudy Tellez at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.
Pacquiao went up the scales with his shirt and shoes on although there seems to be no real concern about his weight compared with his nemesis Erik Morales who came in at 142 lb at a similar weigh-in recently.
“He was on the scales wearing a shirt and his shoes — his real weight is about 136,” said Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach in an interview with Fightnews.
There was no mention if the weigh-in was held before or after Pacquiao’s workout at Wild Card.
If the weigh-in was held after a rigid workout, then it was safe to say his weight is now down to around 136 lb as suggested by Roach.
Pacquiao and Morales will clash for the third time in a super featherweight showdown dubbed the “Grand Finale” on Nov. 18 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The weight limit for the super featherweight bout is 130 lb.
While Morales came in a pound below what was allowed by the WBC rules during his weigh-in, experts point out that the Mexican star has now been on a weight-reduction regimen for more than two months, and concerns have been raised as to how much his body can take to get down to the required weight.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s close associate Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud has requested the media to concentrate on writing about the Filipino’s fight preparation.
Salud said it is important that Manny keeps his focus, adding the question of Pacquiao’s relationship with Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank will be settled after the Nov. 18 fight.
