I want to thank everyone for making RSRTV’s “The Boxing Show,” a big success. In case you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for? I look forward to shooting the next one and bringing you some more commentary and laughs. I also want to thank everyone that partook in our Pound for Pound Poll, that saw Filipino Superstar, Manny Pacquiao winning by an overwhelming amount. The Pacman got 85% of the votes, but that is not the story here. I, Geno McGahee, got 33 votes, which placed me at 2%, and put me ahead of Marco Antonio Barrera, Jermain Taylor, Oscar De La Hoya, Wladimir Klitshcko, Jorge Arce, and Winky Wright. In other words, I came in fourth, behind Pacman, PBF, and Joe Calzaghe. Obviously my reputation as the undefeated Backyard Boxing Champion of the World has spread and it is reflected in this poll. I cannot believe that I’m considered the 4th best pound for pound fighter in the world! I wonder if Ring Magazine has me listed?
So, it is Saturday and I have no plans for this weekend. It is refreshing. Well, I might take my wife and son to a dinosaur museum in the area and look at the enormously heavy monsters that once roamed the planet. When I bring my son to the family reunion, he will get a similar show for free. Last Sunday, I took the family to the Forest Park Zoo in Springfield, MA. It was fantastic. They had monkeys, tigers, emus, and even camels. I saw a couple of kangaroos, but considering that they were “friendly” with each other, I kept walking. I don’t want my 2 year old son to see kangaroo love. He is just too young!
My son really liked the alligators. He went absolutely crazy for them, so when I stopped at the gift shop, I was going to buy him one, but they wanted 25 dollars for a small stuffed one. Not on my watch! I ended up getting him a stuffed frog for 10 dollars. I could buy a real alligator for 25 bucks, or at least pay some stupid person that to go out and try to catch one. I could send somebody to Florida with a huge net, and a tuna in hand to use as bait. The only thing that might happen is that he might come back with an elderly person in the net. They are more rampant in Florida than alligators and considering that some eat dog food, they might go plum crazy over a tuna fish.
How about a movie review for all of you film buffs out there? I was once called a movie buff, but I don’t know what a “buff” is. I sometimes want to say: “Buff this,” but I’m too nice of a guy to utter such words. I’m one nice @$#@$#. Anyway, the movie that I watched this week that I rented from the library was Scary Movie 4. OK, I didn’t rent it, but they let me take it to my house for free because of one of two things: 1. My local celebrity status. 2. The library doesn’t charge anyone. Whatever the case, that was my movie and I have to say that my expectations were very low. The first one was funny, but the 2nd and 3rd were pure poop. Now, the fourth one redeems the series and is absolutely hilarious. The Tom Cruise/Oprah skit in it was ridiculous and I could not stop laughing because, quite frankly, it was dirty and I didn’t expect that. The rest of the movie has some dirty humor and some stupid humor, but I think that most people will really get a kick out of it. I am giving it 7/10, which easily beats the 1/10 that I gave 2 and 3.
Now, that I’m done rambling, let me ramble some more as I reply to your questions and comments.

my votes for p4p boxer today is pacman because he never choose his opponents he fights fighters who are listed as best,unlike pretty boy that though his brilliance in the ring excel but for me,to cemint this and for the non floyd believer, he must fight golden boy,tito,coto,sugarshane..its a long list agree?

I do think that PBF has become a businessman first, and a fighter second, and carefully selected Carlos Baldomir because he was the most money and the least threat. I don’t think that he needs to fight De La Hoya. De La Hoya is washed up, and a win wouldn’t really prove anything. I think that Brian Wilbur of RSR put it very well when he said that De La Hoya wasn’t the fighter that PBF was in his prime. I believe that as well, and that would be a one-sided beating.
I think that the same applies for Sugar Shane Mosley. Tito would have to have 5 or 6 tune ups before challenging PBF and because of his size alone, he might give him some difficulty. Now, Cotto is a young gun and might just give PBF a hell of a fight.

Great to hear from you my friend. Yeah, “The Boxing Show” is something that I am very proud of. I am very proud of my team which includes my good friend Jeremy Weiskotten, who does all of the editing and filming, my friend Cedric Howard that hosts the show, Tony “TNT” Brown, my camera man and the man that isn’t afraid to look foolish at times to get a laugh, Steven Joseph Adams, the cue card guy and a great actor, and of course, Sean “Fitzy” Fitzgerals and Jose Antonio Rivera, who are two great sports and really contribute so much to the show. I have one hell of a time working with this team and I see very big things in the future.
I also proved that I was more of a ladies man than Jose in the last show, which should dispel anything that “El Gallo” says in his “Ask the Champ” mailbags. Oh, I know that he talks and runs off at the mouth, but he never says it to my face when I see him (Note: Jose, no need to say anything to my face. Written form is just fine).
Well, you and I have the same prediction you say? Great minds think alike my friend.

I’m the ruler of the universe? You just don’t know how sweet that is! I’m glad that you enjoyed The Boxing Show, and I was happy to include Manny on the show. Stay tuned to RSR because “The Boxing Show” is not going anywhere and I hope that you continue to watch. Now that you mention it, I am entertaining the idea of a new RSR contest: Win a date with TNT.
Amazingly enough, Valuev would dwarf TNT. Tony is 6’3” while Valuev is 7 feet even. I would be afraid for Tony, basically because of that wig and lady’s coat that he was wearing. Valuev might get confused.

To be completely honest, I think that Nikolay Valuev has a nicer money maker. Wait…that didn’t sound right. Hmm. Let me try again. Nicolay Valuev’s money maker puts your girl’s to shame. As of today I have not seen any information on HBO or Showtime televising the Brock-Klitschko fight. Any idea if we are going to see Brock get killed or are we going to have to hear about it from Geno?
How about Valuev? Just as I have been saying. I have seen him fight 12 times now and he is so unimpressive. After the novelty of him waking to the ring and the first round or 2 wore off, you could see how bored the crowd was. Don King better protect him because he will struggle with any of the real 5-6 top heavyweights. I HATE John Ruiz and even I think Ruiz beat him. He seems like a really good guy though. Hopefully Don King calls him the Jolly Giant one too many times and he flattens Don and removes him from all of our boxing lives forever.
Finallt did you really need to have P4P poll on your site. You could have put Ali, Leonard, Ray Robinson, and Roy Jones JR. along with Manny Pacquiao and Manny still would have gotten 80% of the votes. UGH! How annoying!!! HE IS NOT THE BEST P4P FIGHTER!!!!! He can be your favorite fighter and you can still admit he isn’t the best that ever lived. Ok I feel a little better now.

HBO will be airing the sort of anticipated bout between undefeated American, Calvin Brock and Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF Heavyweight Title on November 11th. I think that Brock has only one chance and it goes against his grain. He needs to go after Wlad because if he stays on the outside, which is his custom, he is going to get killed. He has to make it a dog fight and go for broke. He either wins by KO or loses by KO. Why did they even hire judges for this one?
Wouldn’t that be nice if King said: “8th Wonder of the World, the Jolly Green Giant,” and THUMP! Valuev snaps, which is not out of the question, and flattens him? I may have been in the minority that thought that Valuev was impressive in the Barrett fight. He is not quick and he is not a knockout puncher, but he has the potential to rule the division. He is enormous and steady on his feet and takes a good punch. He knocked out a guy that lasted with Hasim Rahman and nearly beat Joe Mesi. I think that Valuev needs to keep on stepping up gradually. Even with all of his fights, Larry Donald and John Ruiz may have been too early in his career. He got past them by hook or by crook, but he is still a baby. A big baby, but a baby nonetheless. I would love to see him in there with Klitschko. That would be great! If there’s a KO early, Wlad wins. If there’s a KO late, Valuev wins. I love that match up!
The poll was open to all and the Pacfans chimed in and won 2 polls in a row for their man. I think that their support of their fighter is refreshing. Most people I know will say F a fighter once they lose. Remember Francesco Damiani? Before Ray Mercer, he was the biggest thing, more or less. Well, probably less, but that is beside the point. After losing to Mercer, he disappeared, but the Damiani Maniacs remain. The Damiani Maniacs is the fan club that I started. I mentioned them before, but since we have grown to 3 members, it was time to mention it again.

Thank you for the props. I truly appreciate them and I am happy that you consider me one of the most reliable sportswriters. I think that there is something to be said about a person in a position like Pacquiao that acts right and supports their people and their country. Now, I’m not talking about one of these American Country stars that sing some horrible tune about the U.S.A. and “these colors not running.” Oh my God, do I hate country music. I understand that it is different strokes for different folks, but country music? I have friends in low places? Achy Breaky Heart? Don’t tell my heart, my achy breaky heart? Line dancing? What the @$@#$# is up with that people?
Like I was saying, I think that a person of wealth and power who chooses to remain humble and doesn’t forget the people that supported him and brought him to the position, is impressive. So many times, you see these jerk offs that make a lot of money, gain some popularity, and then crap on the fans. Baseball players asking for lots of green just for an autograph, and morons like Mark McGrath, the lead singer of Sugar Ray, who threatened a fourteen year old kid and grabbed him by the throat for calling him a name. That guy needs a violent and I mean VIOLENT kick in the grapes.
The 3 opponents for Pacman that I would choose, would be Juan Diaz, which would be an exceptional fight. Juan Manuel Marquez in a rematch. Finally, I would like to see the Pacman in there with Joan Guzman. Guzman showed a lot in his last fight and would be a difficult foe for Manny.

I don’t believe a fight is on nowdays until they actually step into the ring!
Castillio and Corrales have both pissed me off and you can predict that when a fighter doesn’t make the weight and losese their belt for sure they are going to be demotivated when they get into the ring ruining the fight for the fans. It’s bull$hit really they are going to have to get tough waht do you think the way forward is? Thanks

I think that the boxing authorities will do what they normally do: not much. Certain people are going to be given allowances due to their drawing power. Mike Tyson comes to mind. Diego Corrales should be fighting around 140, and I think that he will be much tougher and would be a great bout for Ricky Hatton. There is something developing and it hope that it does with Jose Luis Castillo facing Ricky Hatton and maybe the winner facing Miguel Cotto. Now, with Corrales added in there as a possible opponent for Cotto or facing the winner of this mini tournament, it is extremely exciting. I would love to see it.
This is a problem that is difficult to fix and it has been going on for quite some time. The Titles have become meaningless and so when you lose one, who cares? Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo wasn’t about titles. It was about exposure and money. If there was only one title per division, it would mean something, but they are handing these things out. I just got a WBA Championship Belt in the mail yesterday. They took me up on my idea of “Super Duper Duper Champions,” and have made me the first. Boxing is the greatest sport in the world with the toughest athletes, but a lot of the game sucks.

I know you have to hype up the fight but, as a boxing historian, I know you will differentiate between Valuev being the WBA chump and Marciano being the undisputed champ when it comes to statistics and breaking records.

Now, I have been quoted saying that Rocky Marciano is the move overrated Champion of all time, and maybe that is harsh, but I do consider him too highly regarded. I am a fan of “The Rock,” and I love his tenacity, but he fought a lot of old guys. They raided the nursing homes for his opponents. I just looked it up: Joe Louis was 87 years old when he stopped him. Whatever the case, Marciano was the World Champion and was not just one in the mix. Nikolay Valuev, Wladimir Klitschko, Oleg Maskaev, and Serguei Lyakhovich are not the World Champion at this time. They are Title holders, but nobody really considers them the dominant force in the division. You have to clean out the division. Look at Mike Tyson…he took everyone out: Tony Tubbs, Tony Tucker, Bonecrusher Smith, Pinklon Thomas, Tyrell Biggs, Michael Spinks, Frank Bruno, and Carl Williams, and that’s the truth! (Bad Joke of the day.)
Valuev will break Marciano’s record and on paper, it will look good. It will be a shot in the arm of boxing, but I don’t think that anyone will actually say that he did more than Marciano in his 50 fights. It is like these baseball players that are breaking all of those records but are juiced up on steroids. That doesn’t count! Babe Ruth was never juiced up on steroids. He was juiced up on cupcakes.
