ALA Boys Z “The Dream” Gorres and AJ “Bazooka” Banal will put at stake their reputations and promising careers against hungry Indonesian visitors tonight at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.
Gorres will face Sony Manakane for a non-title 10-round fight, while Banal is set to face another acid test against Angky Ankota also in a non-title 10 rounder.
Both fights are the main events of the SGG Sports Promotion card billed “Wars in the Ring.”
In yesterday’s official weigh-in session hosted by Boy Te at the Lai Garden Seafood Restaurant at the Crossroads, Gorres (25-1-1, 11KOs) weighed in at 114 ? lbs while Manakane (9-2-1, 4KOs) initially tipped at 117 lbs. before making the 116 lbs. limit. Banal (9-0-1, 8KOs) was 114 lbs., while Angkota (17-3, 11KOs) was 113? lbs., both at first try.
Monthly program
“This fight is the initial promotion we had with Solar Sports for the program ‘Stars of the Future,’ which will be aired worldwide on a monthly event,” said promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
For Gorres, a defeat would eliminate his chances to fight for the WBO superflyweight title, while a loss for Banal would reduce his marketability as a promising boxing superstar.
For Manakane and Angkota, victory would boost their stakes in the international boxing arena.
Ranking
Manakane is aiming to get Gorres’ lofty world ranking. Gorres is WBO No.1, IBF No.4, WBC No.6 and WBA No.14.
Above all, the Indonesians are out to duplicate compatriot Simson Butar-Butar’s stunning victory over the banished ALA Boy and former WBO Asia-Pacific superfeatherweight champion Czar Amonsot.
Also featured in the fight is the upcoming Mark Jason Melliguen vs. Chris Alag, Milan Melindo vs. Ricardo Albia, Dennis Juntillano vs. Roldan Malinao, Jun Intor vs. Carlo Magale, Wilson “Weng” Haya vs. Markyll Taroja, Fernando Otik vs. Elmer Colve, and Gil Melliguen vs. Jovie Merca.
